Blast Door Troubles
Been trying to build with blast doors for rotor and piston based doors on small ships, and the blocks seem to be registering collison larger than the block itself, meaning I need a lot of space between the piston grid and the ship, get a rotor that refuses to turn, or a (admitedly much rarer) visit from lord clang. Anyone have a workaround or is it just the nature of the blast doors?

maybe some pics of what your trying to accomplish? could just be the approach your taking. but it wouldnt suprise me if it was demon king Clang possesing your rotors.

you have to have a decent amount of clearance for sure. I'd check to see if the door is "hitting" any corners. Even if they don't seem to be making contact, I bet you have a few blocks here and there that the blast door can't sneak by.

If you're not opposted to mods there is one that add an assortment of additional blast door blocks that might help you

The rotors have been surprisingly tame. The trouble seems to be the way the blocks are interacting and theres not enough room for them to pass by eachother or generally colliding where their otherwise seems to be room.

Yeah, it seems I'll need to mod to get this to work how I'd planned.

I haven't even built my hangar yet, but I'm just reading this thread for the hell of it. Thanks for posting this mod, anon.

I am having the same problem. Blast doors are intended to slide between full grid blocks, which is why they are narrower than full blocks. However, the collision seems to be the same as normal blocks. The only workaround I have right now is to use half blocks around the blast door.

Have you tried adjusting the offset on the rotor? Bring it in to near zero and see if that helps

Generally when I want to use a blast door rotor door, I also have to put blast door block in the door frame. As, indeed, otherwise they won't properly pass through. It really sucks, as it often ruins designs of ships for me.

I am using pistons and those don't even work correctly.

something I figured out recently is that the force of pistons is low by default and you may need to increase it. Its a fairly new feature, the sliders at the bottom of the piston's menu, but I have made a couple fairly complicated designs using the above mod, vanilla blast doors, and regular vanilla blocks. The issues arise when the force is too strong and it can cause you ship to act up as of old, but I have yet to have one explode on me so thats a plus. You just have to f around with it until it works.

My pride n joy right now is the belly drop door I've made for my explorer/destroyer that slides open by pistons that have rotors attached to them that in turn open the door fully. To add to that, I made a lock on a seperate piston that slides on top of the rest after closing. That part was a PITA to get right because I needed to use as few blast door blocks as I could, but it works well and only kinda sorta wants to buck around every now and again. That's rare though and mostly it works as intended with a bit of screaming as the blocks slide against each other.

Force isnt the problem I was having. The door blocks would actually spazz out in place. I had one ship paritally destroyed because of the pistons at normal force lol. Also with a massive hole punched in my building platform.

I do seem to remember that for some reason small grid blast door blocks have a full block collision model. I hope that has been changed by now.

Try pressing Alt F11, then enabling Debug Draw and Physics Primatives. That should show the collision model.

You just have to use the slopey bits with a triangle tip not the full squares. Check the back door on this for example....

Also check your rotor displacements, just copy the values off that. If that door dosent work it must have been broken in a patch :(
