I'd also recommend Splitsie's tutorials as they are the beat up-to-date ones.

Thanks for the perspective, I really don't mind a lack of objectI've per se ( coming from games like 7 days to Die, Empyrion, etc I'm fine with "just survive!" ) I was just curious if I was missing something in the settings or if the starting mode made any differences. I'll plug some more hours into the game and see what I can manage...or break and come back if questions remain. Thanks for the reply!
Thanks for some updated material! Yeah, the campaign was a glorious waste of an hour after not learning anything about what each blocks function is or how to structure a base/ship effectively . I appreciate the guide, since the video's I came across were always a bit outdated
There's a mod for hydroponics farming and hunting, with food and hydration bars. And a planetary lander that includes starter food and water if you want to play with that mod.
There's pirates, pirate bases, cargo ships... Actually, I haven't seen any spawn in-atmosphere in my games, but have seen it happen in videos. Maybe it's from that exploration mod.
And if you know C# there's programmable blocks (but no official tutorials or support for it) which will challenge your ability to decode Visual Studio's Object Explorer... but when they work they do really cool things.
Yes. I recommend Splitsie's due to them being current (for now.) I used to recommend GasBandit's for the brand new player and still do. The problem with his is that they are out of date such that some things have change. For example, his on how to place a small grid landing gear on a station block is the simpliest and best but the letter used to swap between large grid and small grid blocks has changed such that it can be confusing. But the method of rotating the block and dropping it is the same.
That said, for basic functionality like how to make a conveyor network function or what constitutes a basic ship, or how to construct a ship using a projecter I still feel that GasBandits are the best. One just needs to be aware that many of the controls and some of the features have changed since they were made. So after viewiing them if you find that your blocks or controls are different you'll need to find up-to-date info. For that I'd recommend Space Engineers update videos for the given blocks.
