I tried the middle mouse button and it didn't work. Do I have to enable it somewhere?

HowTo:
- Equip a block from the toolbar as if you were to place it. Any block will do. Armor cube probably best so you can easily see where it touches the grid.
- Hit "P" and choose a color and "ok".
- Point the placement frame of the block to the existing block you want to paint as if you were attaching the block to the existing block. You need to be close enough for the placement frame to "snap" i.e. the same as when placing it. When painting, it doesn't matter whether the frame shows in red or green, though.
- Click middle mouse button

--> The existing block's color is changed to the color you picked.

If you want to continue painting other blocks with the same chosen color just move the placement frame to touch other blocks and hit MMB. There's also a key to paint with a bigger brush (more than 1 block at a time) and another to paint the entire grid but I don't remember those as I rarely use them.

I apreciate your being so specific, but it still isn't working.

Have you tried in a no mods world? ...

I can tell you that this feature works fine, maybe by making a change to the game keys in options and reset to default, may work!

Like Saturax.cz said, if you could try with another mouse!? It's a fast test to do.

i havn't tried it with a modless world, i never thought that would be a problem, but now that you mention it, their is a large posibility the mouse is broken. I'll try both and see what happens.

I can confirm changing a block color with MMB works in modless vanilla. I had resigned to the tedious grind and replace method to change block colors.

I didn't know this could be done until reading this thread. Thank OP for asking the question, thanks everyone else with the responses.

So I am having the same issue. I know I am doing it right cause it works on my base but for some reason after my ships are finalized I cannot change there color. I have tried with them docked and undocked. I was able to change blocks well I was building it from a Blue Print but after it was done it does not work. None of my ships will allow me to change color after there built.

It only works in vanilla if you are the original owner of the station. If it's a faction station and you didn't place the first block, you can't paint any part that's already built. You need to grind it down, change the color and place it again. (Yes, this shouldn't be an issue, but they go for more content, instead of fixing bugs)

It is new:

If you play SOLO = you can paint all you want.

If you play MP = you can paint only your creations and if you want to mpaint together = you must set the Gid to "Nobody" and don't forget to reset all turrets to "Not shoot NEUTRAL"

I recoomend to open a NEW discussion and do NOT reopen old ones because the game is not the same anymore.
