How many Large Cargo Containers do you use?
How many do you actually fill in normal use?

Hard to say in all instances.

But on 1x inventory I use 1 large grid CC for each production line which consists of 1 Refinery, 4 arc furnaces, and 1 assembler.

I use an additional one when using hydrogen thrusters just to store the ice.

It definitely depends on your inventory settings. You often do not need many until you have huge amounts of things. I usually play on X10 though just so I waste less time running back and forth to make things.

It really is up to you to assess what you need. A large one on a large grid even on X1 is a lot of stuff. I would just make one to get started and make more as you need them.

As casualsailor said, difficult to say.

It all depends on how much mining you do. I also use 1x inventory.

Of my 3 survival worlds: #1 is only one large cargo because its a wheeled mobile base (1 refinery). #2 uses a planet station and I've had 4 filled with ore (8 refineries). #3 is asteroid base and 52 large cargo is insufficient and I have to build more soon (30 refineries).

I usually turn the Yellow Respawn ship or the Lander into a mining ship. Neither will move with much agility once you add a single large cargo container and fill it with ore. Ore masses 2.2kg per L.

I use the equivalent number of scc and spread them over the length of the ship to avoid cog issues with heavy loads. Not sure if it helps but it's good for immersion purposes.

1 large cargo per refinary is usualy good enough for me, but I don't generaly build mega ships.
I like my nice light resorce gathering ships ^.^

There was a time when 9 27 small cargo containers held more than 1 large one. That is no longer the case. But if you don't care about the component cost to build them then the versitility of using small cargo containers is definitly a plus.

Good point!

Edit: 27

i use 3x3x3 cargo containers, holds more

No it doesn't.
one large cargo container holds a tiny fraction more.

Though if I am not mistaken you are still better off with 3*3*3 small reactors compared to 1 large reactor on large ships.

Edit:
Well god dang.
35% more power from 3 by 3 by 3 small reactors than one large reactor...
Why the heck does anyone bother with large reactors? XD

27 small cargo containers at 15,625 = 1 large cargo container at 421,875.

Thats right. Right?

1x Inventory.

4218750 / (156250 * (3*3*3)) = 1;

though large cargo containers usualy have a non zero value after the decimal point so sa I said, they are ever so fractionaly larger, or maybe the diffrence is just a display issue.

Oh, zero point 1 L. So I'm wrong. Again. Thanks Loues. I love to be proven wrong more than anything else in the world. :steamhappy:

what?? j/k

Wrong? I didn't see you go wrong XD
I don't think that tiny diffrence is worth anything. It is an assumption that it actualy exists and isnt simply created by rounded down on the small cargo containers :p

Honestly either way is good. I'd go with small cargo myself if that didnt turn inventory into a total mess.

Still going to stick with small reactors vs large though. That actualy has a huge, tangible, measurable diffrence.

No its ok. You just showed me up. You made me look bad. I made a simple mistake and you are like WRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGGGG!

It's all good. It keeps me humble. :steamhappy:

Seriously, I'm not sure if that is an display error or what. I've honestly never noticed it before.
