I'm not sure if this is still an issue but you might try exiting the game completely to see if it releases the memory back to the system.
now it's playable :)
Mine was set on high. I dropped EVERYTHING to low but texture filtering, which is Anisotropic x16 (textures low), all draw distances are at very minimum to set. Now i dont go above 5GB of ram used even in planetary. And my frames jumped to 200-300fps without v-sync :D unplayable tho on such frames. its just too fast. my simspeed vary between 1.0 and 1.5, what is silly.... time go faster o_O
It stays playable until I start crashing ships against planets or if I start my demolition experiments using warheads, which will invariably set my computer on a never-ending stuttering show.
If I crash too much stuff or blow too much stuff the game crashes to desktop
My PC stays pretty cool too at about 39 degrees Celcius with everything maxed out at 4K Ultrawide (5120 x 2160) with an averge FPS of about 71.5
16 gb ram ddr3
amd radeon 7800 hd
been running se for eons on this old rig at 78ish fps at med/high....NEVER has it consistently eaten all my ram. only way I can make it do that is stupid ideas or massive objects.
have read this around, but dunno if there is salt in it. Had se utterly reject one radeon card.
checked your nividiapanel and tried to change any settings for SE before started the game.
You can shut off the setting for shadow cache. Was always a little prob in almost games. At next has Nividea extra Configurations to otimizing the texturefiltering-ansiotropic and trinilieare. That can off, too. The last step...i ran the game now with performance mode and not with quality. This is sure little bit easilier to handle for only 10GB RAm and a GT550 TI with only 1GB Vram.
with performance and ingamesettings on middle to high (texturesettings) is the game by me now really smooth and looked good so before. no leaks, lags and overloaded ram by playing. i had without this change of the settings anytime black screens, too. Memory is full and the whole system shut off while playing...The rig is often only by 6-8GB as like NIHL in the forum. Isn´t the failure....
...something can´t good handle the scripts between SE-Build and Nividia-Driver and thats chrashed the game. Try at first to shut off the shadow cache and play. this is sure the bad script before freezings and stuttherings. my sys played now till to 3hours without ram-failure and without this changings in the nivida panel directly for SE...all 30-60 minutes a crash.
thats must be a driver prob, i mean...
ah...and maybe a good tip, too. set the priority for SE on high in the taskmanager. with a right mouseclick on SE in the taskmanager. it is possible to change the ressourcemanagment for the whole system do you like. Standart has all normal priority and only for playing SE...you can say Space Engineer at first ;D

at example without shadowcache and have fun. saddly only for nividia good tips.
(FXAA for AA-Settings can be on!)
