World failing to save
Hey guys,

I've been playing space engineers for awhile now but im still new at the game. Recently I was playing on my world with autosave enabled when I got this error message:

"World '-------' failed to save. This can be caused by running out of memory or problems when writing files. Working in this world any longer may result in loss of progress. You can check log file to find out more about what caused this error."

I thought that I could save my game manually by pressing 'esc' and clicking 'save'. I recevied the same message. Ideas? I don't know how I would go about fixing this and im not sure how to check any log files....

Any help would be appreciated! Cheers!

I just this second dealt with this.

The log file should be %AppData%\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log where %AppData% is typically C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming.

You can view it in NotePad.

In my case, the underlying problem was
Exception occured: System.IO.PathTooLongException: The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters
Using "Save As" with a shorter name solved the issue. The game tacks a load of junk onto the save name to create the filename.

I've written a utility that goes through and shortens all the voxel file names in your saves, using Save As to change the folder name is a temporary fix, the problem will come back eventually.

Hate to respond so late to this, but seeing as it's fairly high up on the Google Search for this issue, I felt I should point out that Malwarebytes identifies the file by Duckroll (or whatever the name happens to be for whoever is reading this, it'll be the post above mine) as malware.

I am having this problem right now. The "Earthlike.......vx2" file for is too long now and has a repeating long number that is just duplicated multiple times. I have tried renaming it and fixing the references and also tried Duckroll's tool but when I load the world in both cases it loads but my entire planet is gone, the voxels just don't render so my planet base is now in open space.

Does anyone have any more suggestions?

The repeated number seems to be listed as "EntityID" in the sandbox file but that's it. Is there some redundancy check to see if saves were edited outside SE?

Hi, try #1 + #2 + #3 in the Forum Workaround(s) thread first and try the second part in there on how to test a world and find broken Mods :
