Min/recommended specs
This is a good one guys. Go look on the store page and check out the minimum and recommended CPUs.

At minimum, you need a Kaby Lake processor. Any one of them will do.

However, it's recommend that you have at least a 2.5GHz i5. (None of the Kabies are clocked this low, btw.)

This is gold. Keen has actually stopped trying.

None of the gaming-class ones are, but Kaby Lake includes plenty of crappy low-end chips for the budget gamer without a clue:

Intel is slowly reimagining their lines to make room for the i9. We got dual core i7s[ark.intel.com] running around out there lol.

So we got a sort of shift going on where what we consider the power level of the exisiting Pentium is to become the i3, the i3 > i5, i5 > i7, and i7 > i9. In business terms: they can use the existing brand power of the i5 name to sell people i3s for awhile, and the brand power of the i7 to sell gamers i5s. They know some people are going to buy the i9s just because they're the new "best". Brilliant. Underhanded, but brilliant.

But... aren't the i9s just a rebranding of their already-existing enthusiast platform (ostensibly to answer AMD's Threadripper, at that)?

Those processors are way overkill for gamers. Arguably, i7s are too, if all you're doing is gaming.

anything hitting 4.0 and above on a single core atleast is good for gaming :).

Sure, you can game on i9/enthusiast Intel chips, and game well. But the performance benefit over an i7 or even an i5 is pretty marginal compared to the cost, especially given that very few games can utilize all those extra threads.

true but those extra threads come in handy with other tasks like streaming ect when gaming or editing ect... if not gaming atm.

personally any of the newest stuff that just came out or is coming soon shouldnt be bought imediately because they will have compatability issues harware and software alike.

Van, you're late to the party; W4stedspace mentioned this discrepancy back in march (19:27):

Actually, I think you misunderstood. Wasted's vid lists the minimum CPU as an Intel Core2 Duo; Van is pointing out that the minimum that is now on the storepage is a 7th gen Intel, any 7th gen Intel.
I'm no expert, but I believe he's saying that the minimum required CPU is stronger than the recommended CPU.

It's weirder than that. 7th gen, by itself, doesn't mean anything as a hardware requirement. There's entire lineup of 7th gen processors, ranging from budget notebook models to i9 enthusiast-grade $1500 CPUs.

Another funny thing: Intel's 7th gen will only work with Windows 10. So, by specifying 7th gen and Windows 7 as minimums, they're telling you to play this game on an impossible hardware/software combination.
