F9 does nothing- can't view keyboard controls

I got a double pack of this game to play it with an international friend. We started it up at the same time, and went to reconfigure the controls since neither of us uses a controller. For her, pressing F9 worked splendidly. For me? It just made the volume go down, it's usual computer function. We ended up being able to play because she told me what each key corresponded to.

This is however not a long term solution. Is there anything I can do about this?

I presume you're using a laptop? Locate a key "Fn" on your keyboard before hitting F9
