Free or not?

So, is this game going to be free when it's done or is it going to cost more than it is now?

Right now the game is free, as you can download what is currently the full version from the Starmade website or the Steam demo option. As more features are added, the game will become progressively more expensive and new versions will only be available to those who have purchased.
You should never have to purchase the game twice, nomatter what platform you attempt to play it on.

In the future the game will be completely paid for, to get access to the latest version. Currently you can play the full current version of the game for free, by using the demo.

To get access to the full version when it is released for, you can purchase the game now for a cheaper price. This will upgrade your account, upgraded accounts will also have enhanced online features (skin selections, blueprint storage, etc).

Please be aware that downloading it from the website and playing Steam's Starmade demo is the same thing. The current version of the game is free. Purchasing the game will unlock all future versions. Don't want to pay yet? No sweat, try it out with no obligations!

You will not have to pay again. Once you own the game, that's it. I suggest trying our demo, which is the full version, before purchasing it. StarMade is in alpha; there are plenty of issues and incomplete features. It's not yet a game for the average consumer. But if you enjoy it in its current state, or simply wish to support development, by all means, go right ahead.

I think about all the time I spent playing this before it was ever on Steam and it felt more than worth it to buy it. But I have to say I am more than a little surprised the game hasn't progressed more than it has. Certainly have had lots of hours of fun though.
