Also having a better interface/display for block orientation when you're building would be nice. At the moment, it's pretty ridiculous.
-> Make sure you use the "Rail Turret Axis" and the "Rail Docker" as blocks if you want to build a turret.
-> If you want to simply dock you need a "Rail Basic" and a "Rail Docker".
-> Make sure you are using the newest version of starmade and the default texture pack.
-> You need to take a closer look at the arrows on the texture. If you have a "Rail Basic" block which looks like this (>>>) the "Rail Docker" will try to dock the ship in the same direction like this (----->).
So basically these two texutres are touching:
(>>>)
(---->)
Same for the turrets. moving ship parts, etc.
If you get the error of "no space" blabla you most likely rotated the blocks in the wrong directions or built a something that doesn´t fit.
now, you don't need to manage a fancy "I'm allowed something this big" system, you just need to be able to say "it fits" and it will fit.
The core would always go above the dock port.
And if the ship would not fit in the "docking box",
which had to be extended by ugly 3d shape expanders,
(Yes ignore docking zone does not count here,
it was a debug option for pre 2013 blueprints to be loadable)
Now you define a dock port, and a facing on the docker, and IF it fits in the position where the arrows on the blocks both touch in same orientation the ship will dock.
So if it denies docking, fly and touch the dock (rail or other dock module), with your rail-docker and try go in contact with the docking port. You should easily find the problem this way.
If not, make a screenshot of this position and we can look into it.
The new system isn't perfect, and can definately stand some improvement, which I'm sure it will get. As more helpers like the create docked entity tool get added, it's complexity will diminish from view, leaving only it's rich flexibility.
I imagine the first typesetters complained about having to layout all those letters upside down, individually. Well, look at us now! :-D
P.S. Don't forget to mind your rails and dockers!
