How do I create slabs?

As for the latest update with merged blocks,
I'm unable to place any slab blocks.

Does anyone have clues as to how it is done now?

Each block should have a slot with four shapes in one blue icon. If you select that, a radial menu comes up, and I think slabs are available from there.

Like Farrel said. Use right mouse button on the shapes you want to sticky them to the hotbar. Form then on all you need to do is scroll to whatever shape you want. It will stay that way until you change it.
