Do NPCs interact with shop blocks in single player?

I'm trying to figure out how shop modules work right now, although on a single player world, it seemed a bit silly, really...

Then I saw someone comment somewhere that an NPC ship restocked his shop?

Does that happen? Will I actually see NPC ships in this backwater part of the galaxy that I chose to set up in?

The NP factions have their one trading system and economy. I don't think they trade with you, tho (except you buying at their stores).

Yeah, about the best I managed so far was to get the traders guild to deliver stuff and take away stuff for a fee.

I think actual ships were involved, but I didn't spot 'em.

An update! I left my shop in the trading network, made sure it had buy and sell values for stuff and this morning I noticed I had mail (which probably arrived when I was playing yesterday).

NPCs have been buying things. Not a lot, but they have been buying.

Yeah, just have to make sure that there's a buy price, and I guess it has to be cheaper than the other shops and stock... Oh, and be in the trading network.

I've had a few hundred thousand in sales now. Not huge money, but better than nothing... considerably worse value than actually flying out and finding a shop with money though.
