Where to download dedicated server software?
I want to run my own Dedicated Server on my Server PC, where do I get the server software from?

There is no separate server program. Start the server from the command line with one of the
StarMade-dedicated-server-<YourOS>
scripts, which can be found in the StarMade installation directory.

So how do I run it from a different PC than the one I will play on?

What about when you cannot get the game for free anymore?

Are people goping to need to buy 2 copies if they want to run a dedicated server on a different PC than the one they play on?

That is a speculative question only answered by the developers, and probably not worth considering at this point in time.

Currently, you can copy your starmade installation anywhere you like. You can run multiple copies simulaneously on the same or different computers. You can run the launcher on multiple computers, using it to download and install the current or any previous build of the game to any directories you like. The developers have also stated that when the game is no longer free, the previous full version demos will remain free. The current server system can be run without requiring client authentication with the StarMade registry, so it will remain functional even if the demo can no longer authenticate.

In short, don't worry, be happy.

@Dritzit_ The system they have now is the stardock has you register your name with steam OR it marks your account as a paid account if purchasing through their website. It then knows you are a paying customer. I imagine they would probably still allow downloading the game, but it would require you to have a paid registration to actually join servers. They could then also lock the servers to only allow players with stardock usernames to join any server. This would make it so anybody can run the server, but only purchased copies could actually play.
