Shape of Dreams

Shape of Dreams

Great demo. 1 complaint
I love the direction this game is going.
I also think the artwork is great.

One thing that is really annoying, is the advantage ranged characters have.
It is alot easier to reach the end as ranged characters, while on melee i havent been able to beat the first boss.
I play melee characters 90% of the time in all games, but here the game and boss mechanics are not properly balanced around that imo.

Hope to see some improvements there, and then, depending on the price, i will get this game when it gets released :)

You can take ranged attacks on the melee characters you know.
The sword chick and big guy are both fine. She generates tons of armor for just holding M1 and he gens tons of hp for doing the same.
The only character I've found underpowered is Aurena, who basically kills herself to do only okay damage then tries to fix it with healing that isn't actually that good

Oddly enough, I found Mist to be the easiest character for me, even tho labeled as a hard character, might just be personal preference and play style, but the only 2 times I've reached the end of a run, was on Mist ^^

In my experience, the ranged ones have a lower skill floor to do okay, but the melee ones are overall stronger due to having good defenses built right into their starting kits.

The easy way to play aurene is to just go all in on her passive. because it's balanced around her poor AD and ASPD, once you start getting those up from chaoses and pour enough dust into the passive itself she turns into an unstopple juggernaut that just facetanks everything.

I had an AP build that worked really well on her too, but that might just be due to getting an essence of predation early to skyrocket her damage and a lifesteal one to offset the HP cost. vaporized bosses in less than a second.

Try Mist with sharpness essence on Fleche memory, it fires 5 arrows per cast dealing AP dmg to random enemies, then pump up AP and memory haste. 3 casts of Fleche will send 15 arrows around, so if you boost it's cooldown they fill the screen.

Skip cooldown essences on that, which start out fun but are lacking eventually, in favor of Lethality (damage against enemies with 70%+ hp increased by X%), Contempt (X% damage dealt, increases as target's health gets lower, max at 20% health) and Predator's swapped out for bosses.

Predator's does X% damage to hunters and bosses, killing them adds permanent AD and AP. Put this anywhere for the +stats and farm hunters by the end boss with this, especially if there's two shops adjacent the boss as less hunters spawn on those nodes meaning you can often kill them before their orbital drop crap starts which hits hard.

When not on a boss I have Wealth essence on Fleche because all arrows hitting enemies trigger it's gold farm. Happy dreaming!
Melee is trash, though it is in pretty much every game remotely like this. Ranged is always better. My main issue with the game is cooldowns in a pve experience. Feels extremely awkward and limiting. My go to is just buff attack damage and hold left click with Lacerta. Trivializes everything.

Saying Melee is trash is crazy. I mainly played meele and it works really well. And you do know you can reduce cooldwons like crazy to the point of beeing able to spam an ability? Seems like a weak point of criticism.

Such as what games

Melee is far from trash. My best run has been with the melee tank. He has crazy survivability. And can build damage pretty easily.

LOL what? IMO melee is better than ranged in this game. The ranged character are balanced by their incredibly low range and frailness. Meanwhile the melee character start with healing. And Mist is on a whole other level once you max her meta progression. Mist can make almost anything work just cause how busted having 3 dashes and fastest movement speed along with fleche and parry. Every time I try to do a long run with ranged the issue always become how dang squishy they are cause they get no armor scaling. Make one mistake and your ranged character is dead in one hit.

Personally, I find melee characters easier to clear with since they have such great sustain (especially with concepts supporting them). I do find myself dealing WAY crazier burst as a ranged character, but that means the multiplayer game balance is working as intended, yunno?

Admittedly didn't find it the same. Granted, I started out largely playing Yubar, so don't have everything upgraded, but am usually finding Melee characters outclassing me in multiplayer.

The other big thing I reckon works in their favour is latency; harder to miss something in melee range, as opposed to aiming from range.

All i hear is skill issue mele is way better in this game only Mele character that doesn't feel satisfying to play is Aurena other wise give the game time and learn to play

from my experience.
I can just play the game with mist. Only use Q no other abilities. Funnel everything into my passive and face role the game.

Caster abilities feel meh until you unlock the hardcore ones -- chain lighting and the mind corruption one.

The healer melee -- spam the passive and she never dies.
the tank - i don't even notice at items if im taking dmg. Another melee char where you just spam the passive
Spam passive -- basically lvl it up.

melees have the edge imo.
Mist is my main character so I might be able to offer a little perspective. I'm going to assume the boss mechanics you speak of are the ones where they either damage anything near them or just do a lot of melee themselves. I already saw having ranged abilities as one solution, but you also have mobility and damage reflection abilities at your disposal. One of the reasons I enjoy Mist so much is the built in mobility. It's very fun to step or dash out of range and dart right back in with a Fleche etc. You can also make use of the teleport attacks to be more aggressive by using it as a dodge and attack right through their damage. The relect method is pretty simple. Just wait for them to wind up their big annoying attack, pop the skill, and walk right into it. They are also nice skills to have as back up for when you are out of dodges and dash attacks.
