realMyst : Channelwood Age

I I'm playing real MYST the masterpiece edition & I am really stuck in the Channel wood age, where it has all of the water, walkways & trees. My problem is the 2-way valves. The guide says "at each fork of the walkway there's a 2-way valve. Move the red valve bar parallel to the pipe you want the water to go down" I can't tell if they mean my left & right or their RT & LT. Each valve looks like a capital Y with the bar between the upper arms of the Y.
What I'm really hoping is that maybe just maybe there is someone who is playing the game now or one who remembers playing the game and can help me, TIA

Without more detail I have to bluntly ask, have you opened the valve at the water tank?

Have you moved any of the valves from their original positions?

Do you want a flat out answers to puzzles or do you want clever hints that'll force you to find and brain out the solutions.

I have guides to the Myst games that have all solutions at the end of the guides but provide observations during your process through the worlds that help brain out puzzles.
