Not only could I see it through the gap, I could even click on it too. It was at this point that I realised that for some reason the escape key wouldn't bring up the menu normally like it was supposed to.
EDIT: Running the game in compatability mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3) fixed the repeating texture glitch for me. I don't know why it helped, since this game is only 2 years old, but it did. I just ran it with the first compatability option it gave me. Hopefully this helps anyone else who runs into this issue.
