Realmyst Masterpiece Edition better on Steam or GOG?

The game is on sale on GOG, are there any reasons I should be getting it here instead? Only reason I'm hesitant is because I like GOG extras, but for some very old games, GOG updates fall behind the steam release. Is Cyan Worlds good with this kind of thing?

Currently, both are at the same version.
It is no secret that it is easier for developers to update Steam vs. GOG. That said, for future updates (there are none planned at the moment) we usually update Steam first but within a week GOG will be updated.
However, the achievements are currently only wired up on Steam. Which may or may not be a big deal to you.

Can either of them be played offline if you loose your internet connection? Can any of the up to date steam games be played offline?

Never bothered looking for it on the myst games but many of the others do have offline play, however most or all disable achievements when in effect

Achievements are tracked on Steam so if you're disconnected they can't be tracked, though some games will store them locally and update on reconnect; otherwise pretty much every single-player game can be run with Steam in offline mode. The exceptions are those that have significant server-based content; a lot of clickers are like that. Anything sold on GOG is DRM-free and does not require a connection to run, GOG is big on that, even saying in big friendly letters that use of their client is optional.
