Can't see out library tower window.

How do I open the window in the tower to see the book location? Right now there is a weird grey texture in the way. It looks normal (blue sky) when approaching it but it is blocked when I actually climb the ladder. I have tried all 4 landmarks and it is the same. The keys display at the top of their ladder no problem.

I don't remember having to do anything else to open this window, but it has been decades since I last played Myst. I purchased the game on gog, but these forums are much better trafficked.

What I can tell you is that that's a well-known bug that seems to occur for some people. So far, I haven't heard about what specifically causes it or how you can avoid it.

Top, a pain yeah but the only ambiguous direction is toward the tree/clock tower. I haven't been back to the game in some time, for me the glitch was random. There were a few times I could see out the window during the initial discoveries. Experimenting after completing the 4 discoveries I went back to the tower and was able to see out.

Ah, it was a bug. I thought it might be, but I didn't want to assume and end up spoiling something.

Compatibility mode doesn't help me, but restarting the game does briefly. I'm not sure what triggers it to break again, but if I immediately head to the tower upon opening the game I have a few minutes before that grey shroud appears again. Ultimately decided to just play Myst rather than realMyst.

Me either, I never got back to the compatibility thing but stopped letting it bother me and trusted the 1st floor rotation device arrow, the info discovered is the important thing
