Stupid VR
I've always preferred using a game controller for driving games. A lot of people suggest using a wheel but as a casual gamer that just seemed like an unnecessary expense and bulk for my space. I happen to like playing driving games with just a controller.

So I got around to trying Assetto Corsa in VR. I'm sitting there in the car, looking at the wheel and feeling the controller in my hands. They put the word "virtual" in front of it but this is reality. I'm really in the car and wishing I had a forking wheel in my hands.

Yeah, ac in vr with a wheel is the best driving experience ever. I used to also think "those guys with wheels and sim rigs are a bit over the top", then ac turned me in to one of those guys. Worth the investment if you're serious about sim racing

buy a cheap used one to get you started, the old logitech driving force gt usually goes for really cheap, and it clamps onto your desk so relatively easy to move out of the way when not in use.

The Logitech Driving Force GT is what I used to use. Pretty solid wheel with some nice FFB. I just upgraded to a G29 today and I think the old wheel was better in some areas.

Driving Force GT is going for about £80 on Ebay. The G29/G920 wheel is going for about £199.99 on Amazon on a reduced price at the moment.

I could never understand how people can drive with a controller in VR. Just can't see how you can be in sync with your car wheel and peddles when pressing buttons and pushing Knobs around. That moment when you press so hard on the break peddle that your sim rig almost splits into 2 or that saved spin out that turned in to the perfect drift just doesn't transition to a controller me thinks. For the best immersion, get a wheel and a fan on your face if you drive an open top :)

Why not take the plunge on a rig and a wheel and pedal setup.
I do use expensive gear, but to be honest mid range decent stuff is almost as good. Make sure you get load cell pedals though.
