How do I copy Assetto to a new drive?
Got a new hard drive (SSD) and wanted to copy the game from the old HD to the new one. I have both plugged in. I'm sure I can simply copy the folder to the new drive, but what would I need to change in Steam so all the shortcuts link to the new drive?

I thought I saw a write up on this but can't find it anymore. Thanks.

find where steam is installed typically it's \Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

Then you should see a folder called AssettoCorsa, copy that. Also go to documents and backup the other assetto corsa folder if you want to keep your setups and replays.

I installed steam on my C: which is where I want Assetto Corsa. I originally installed the game on lets say E:. I've copied the E:SteamApps\common\ folder to the C: . The other documents with setups and replays I believe is already on my C: because...well it's in C:\Documents. But after the copy from E: to C:...steam cannot find the executible.

Help again please?

I might be wrong, but by the sounds of it you have steam installed and you've copied the old folder to the new location.

To get the game to see those files, I think you need to run either the verify cache or actually the installation, the installation won't download anything because all the files are there but I think that's what you want to do.

I found the easiest way the do it was to use steam backup and then restore the backup to the new drive.

Correct, I have steam installed on C: and the game was on E:. I copied the game folder from E to C. But Steam says it can't find the executible. I tried running acs.exe from the game folder but this also did not work. It said there were different versions detected and asked to delete all documents. I said ok (I backed them up elsewhere) but it failed when deleting and just referred me to steam's general website.

I verified cache and it looks like it wants to download 6 gb. It also started downloading to the E: and not to C:. So it's looking to the E: for the game.

Steam is looking for the game where it installed it.

You could try looking in your steam\cofig directory and open config.vdf.
Search for assettocorsa and change the install directory path from e: to c:.
Take note of the appid number just before the assetto directory.

Go to your steam\steamapps directory
Look for appmanifest_***** - the number you found in config.vdf
Open that and check the drive letter associated with assetto in that file.

Open steam and verify the game cache.

This might not work. I couldn't find my appmanifest associated with assetto on mine.

Thanks Manny. I looked in the config.vdf file and didn't see Assetto Corsa. I'll try moving it back to E: and doing a back up like you suggested.

Cobra, when I copied the AC folder from E to C and created that common folder...then tried to verify game cache, Steam started downloading the game again.

I may do the redownload option. I just copy the documents in My Documents Assetto Corsa to save set ups and career progress?

Thank you again guys!

I think I somehow lost all my progress when copying back and forth. When I do a restore, the game doesn't have my progress or settings saved.
ShamefulManny 7 ENE 2015 a las 14:54
hmmm. I don't know what you did. Did you move or delete the assetto corsa folder in 'my documents'?

Check for the designated best solution here. It is at mid page.

After that resore the my documents/Asseto Corsa folder or only parts of it.

I don't think backup and restore saves your settings and progress. Backup only backs up the install directory, not the "windowsusername\my documents" folder.

Thanks for all replies. I figured all was lost in something I did so I'll just delete and start fresh. Thanks again for everyones help. I appreciate the responses.

I use the mklink command when I move files around to create symbolic links.

Cut and paste the AC folder where you want it.

Run cmd.exe, type in: mklink /d "link directory" "target directory"

So for example, say I want to move my files from steam on E: to a folder on C: called games. Type this in: mklink /d "E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Assetto Corsa" "C:\games\Assetto Corsa"

then hit enter, check the original folder to make sure it made the symbolic link correctly and you're done. When you open the symbolic folder on E:, it will take you directly to the folder located on C:.

Takes less than 5 minutes, no reinstalling or redownloading the files required. :B1:

I can see there's quite a few replies and I honestly haven't read them, so maybe this is being reapted.

OP, if you click on the steam drop down in the top left, and select settings, new window will appear.
Select from the left hand side "downloads". The first option will be steam library. And you can change the location to where steam install games and also where steam looks for games currently installed.

hope that helps.
