Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa

Low FPS problem that wasn't occurring before.
Hi all,

Earlier today I was playing Assetto Corsa with a stable 30+ FPS with 23 opponents. After playing again, the frame rate has dropped to 5 FPS and is completely unplayable.

I didn't change any of the settings - graphics, opponents, course, etc is all untouched.

Any help appreciated.

System:

CPU: 8350
GPU: R9 270x
Ram: 2x4GB G. Skill 1866 Mhz
Motherboard: Asrock 970 Pro 3 R2

Graphics settings:

Everything maxed except Antialiasing (2x), mirror reflections disabled and shadow refresh medium frequency

Course:

Spa
Practice race
23 opponents

Update:

I've done further testing and found:

1-16 opponents = 30-40 FPS
17+ opponents = 5 FPS

Why such a drop when you go from 16 to 17 opponents? 16 opponents is super smooth, 17 not even playable
If i were to guess, it could be graphics card overheating/glitching, and going into safe mode when above certain memory or shader requests. Try limiting FPS to ~25 and see if the drop persists above 17+ cars. (Dropping reflection quality a little could help too)

It could also be some AI slot/line related glitch, so maybe try different track/car combo. Aside from that it might be something mod related, try disabling all mod apps and see if it changes something.

Anyways if the problem persists it would be best to report that on the official AC support forum to get proper help.

Also dang it, 30fps? 60fps feels uncomfortable for me, cant imagine playing on anything slower lol.

I hadn't played AC for about two months because both of my R9 280X's had to go in for RMA and when they returned they weren't working either.
They just gave me my cards back and I noticed that I got a free upgrade to a R9 290X and the other was a R9 290.
I was pretty pumped to get to use them and I made sure the 290X was the primary one for the 5112 bit memory but my FPS is actually slower, much slower. With both in crossfire I get 80 frames max anywhere and usually around 70.
I don't know if a recent update change something either but I'm getting crappy FPS but in everything so it could be just my system.

The only other thing I was thinking it might be is the latest driver they released just for GTA5, it's a beta driver and might be worth looking at the last version. I will and ill let you know if it goes up.

Since you changed cards, rename/delete the current assetto corsa folder from Documents. And if you play with crossfire, put reflections to low-static or high-ultra, something in between might not use your cards the right way, for crossfire systems.

You could also try to uninstall the current amd driver, restart pc, and then download/install 15.4.1 beta, from http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Catalyst-15.4.1-Beta.aspx
Thanks QUF, it was the document folder that needed to be recreated.
Default settings I just got 333 frames sitting on track.
With everything cranked to the max I got 190 frames.
I then edited video.ini to get 8X AAsamples and it's still at 180.
Thanks mate.

Does the game support 16xx AA?

there is no true 16x AA, only CSAA stuff.. but those are for nvidia. For AMD you can use supersampling, you set in the game either 2, 4, or 8 (file), then in amd 3d settings, under general profile, change aa method, and nothing else in the AA section from amd. 8x SSAA should be pretty intensive, 4x can be better. You can also use morphological filtering On, can help with jagged edges. Edge-detect can be good, idk if it works with AC, but it should consume a lot of performance.

After a confused explanation, first try SuperSampling in amd (leave on use application settings), then in game put 4x. Then if you need something more, try morphological filtering. All this under the general profile, I think AC doesn't work with custom profile, so if you play other games watchout your settings in amd.

ps. AC doesn't seem to have any anti-aliasing method, but it lets you to set the samples. So if in your gpu driver the aa method is multisampling, that's the one the game will use. I think it applies to other games as well.
Thanks guys.

Ling.speed I found that if I limit the models of cars to 4 different models, then I can run races with 24 cars. So thanks, changing the car types helped.

What sort of framerate should I be getting on my system? I find 30 FPS looks smooth but don't really know much

You could try to achieve 60fps. at least it should stabilize around that number during the ongoing race, no problem if you get lower when the cars are all together in the grid or during the first corner, because the race won't be like that.

Try car reflections to low-static, world detail lowest. Lower the quality of pp effects, it will still look nice in lower settings, disable heat shimmering. Now try to see the fps you get. (you could use the fps limiter from the game below resolution, 62.5 should be fine).
If you still can't get 60 fps, post here the content from video.ini /documents/assetto corsa/cfg
Thanks man, will give it a go. Appreciate it
