Hmmm, ok, so, having never replaced a real gear shifter knob, how would it normally be fitted to a real car? Does it just have a threaded hole in the bottom?

Edit: If it has a threaded hole I would be looking for something like this...but not this exactly...

Essentially, the outer thread wants to match that of the replacement knob and the hole in the centre would be used to screw the adapter to your shifter. It's the kind of thing you may struggle to find but could easily be made in 5 minutes by a workshop that has a lathe and some steel rod of an appropriate size.

Hmm, I think it has a threaded hole but can't screw it in with a screw. Just need maybe a rubber adapter or something similiar to make it stick, might be hard to find.

The thread size on the shift knob is 1.5 thread pattern, any help to find a adapter for that would be appreciated ^^

That's thread pitch? What is the diameter? If it's standard metric I would guess it's M10 off hand?

Here's an idea....

Go and buy a bolt with the right thread on it. Chop it down with a hack saw to a reasonable size so it will thread into the new knob nicely....but don't thread it in yet ;)

Now the tricky part.

Drill a hole down the centre big enough for the thread of the original knobs screw to fit through.

At this point, there are number of possible options. If your "adaptor" is too long for your original mounting screw...

A) Buy a longer screw with the same thread. (needs space inside the new knob)

B) Drill a larger hole down part way through the "adapter" that will allow the screw head to fit. (might not be possible depending on how big the screw head is in relation to the "adapter")

C) Shorten your "adapter" length to allow the original screw to pass through with enough thread to lock in to the G27 shaft. (could cause an issue with having enough thread to secure the new knob firmly)

You might want some locking washers or some thread lock to keep things from becoming loose too easily.

I hope this makes sense.

Edit: In before someone else says about all this screwing and knobs.

All seems so complicated, is it possible to just buy the right adapter 10mm*1.5 and twist it in on the shifter?

Or drill a hole into the bottom of the shifter a small one enough for a allen screw?

Have you tried just wrapping some electrical tape aroung the shifter untill its enough to where you can try to screw the shifter over it?

I havent seen any adapter pre made for the g27. i have one and actually bought a fanatec CSS to replace it. That has a thread to fit a standard shift knob but you will have to get creative to fit yours.

Here someone did something like the tape idea but used heat shrink

Heres a post with other ideas. one guy used insulation tape

Good luck.

What I am trying to describe is not really that complicated. Once you have the materials and the tools it would take no more than 5 minutes to make. The catch is you really need a vice and ideally a pedestal drill, though someone reasonably skilled could do it with a hand drill.

My G27 shifter shaft looks to be about 10mm in outer diameter, so I don't really see a different way without completely butchering nice shiney things. If my eyes are right, you could thread the existing shaft but I'm guessing you don't have an M10 die.

...oh, so much innuendo in these posts.

Before you go down that road....

Once you have removed your original knob, will the new one just slide over the shaft?
#Kimura Apr 29, 2015 @ 9:23pm
Yeah I already tried putting it on, it slides almost all the way onto it.
#Kimura Apr 29, 2015 @ 9:27pm
It's just loose since its a little bit bigger on the hole.

In that case, I'd get some heat shrink rather than using pvc/electrical tape. You should be able to get it from an electronics or hobby store. You can get it with or without glue and it can come in different shrink ratios. Really, you just need to get something that is a little bigger than the shaft. Ideally, you want a heat gun but I have managed to shrink it with a decent hair dryer before.

Ahh alright, I do have a heat gun from when I was tinting my windows before. So that should help. Will try this tomorrow.
