5.1 surround issue.
I picked up a set of logitec z506 5.1 surround speakers today to replace my klipsch 2.1 system.
Everything was easy to hook up with color coded RCA jacks and then the green, black and orange mini 8th jacks that go from the sub to the computer.

I ran the test in the realtec window and all sounds are designated to their proper speakers.
However there is no rear or center sound in Assetto Corsa. Nor is there any rear or center sound when I play music, watch a movie or even when I run the several 5.1 tests that are on YouTube.

Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

In the realtek window click on the Gear icon, next to i(info), then in the Playback section select the 2nd option, which says: "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously".

Then in the main realtek window, select 5.1, center, subwoofer, side pair. Untick speaker fill, bass management etc.. in case you selected those options.

In default format tab, I put 1920000hz quality, because it gives better subwoofer/bass sound.

Have you configured windows sound settings? In the windows control panel go to hardware and sound, then click on sound and it will bring up a window. Find your sound device and then configure and it will give you a number of options and then you can test to check it's working properly.

It defaults to 2.1 every time you clean install a new driver for future reference too.

Ok. I did not have "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously". so I checked that and did the rest exactly as you have it.
The "Test" still works as it should with each sound going to its respective speaker. But still no surround in AC, music, movies or the 5.1 tests on youtube.

As far as I know everything is configured to 5.1.
I had read a few threads about AC 5.1 not working correctly and they were working on it but the threads were from mid 2014.

The only odd thing I can see in my realtec audio panel is at the top where iit shows the different outputs. The one that is checked says "HD Audio 2nd output". And "speakers" is right next to it and it doesnt have a green checkmark.
The HD audio 2nd output Does NOT have 5.1 surround. Its grayed out and only "Stereo" is visible. With 2 speakers.

Edit. Ok, somehow I managed to set the 5.1 "Speakers" icon to default device and now the green checkmark is on it instead of "HD Audio 2nd output".

in realtek window you need to select the correct cable configs. Right click on the back panel icons and select connector retasking. Then for blue select side speakers out, for green select front, for pink select center/subwoofer. And keep the same settings as I said in my first post.

So now you have 5.1, sound from all speakers on music, youtube, game?

Not yet. Gonna reboot and try connector retasking. Thanks for all your help.|
Do you know of a specific 5.1 video that for sure works so I can use it as a reference. I know alot of music is still just 2 ch stereo so I cant really use that.

Again the "realtec window" 5.1 test works and sound great. Just nothing else.

I use either youtube or spotify web player for music: https://play.spotify.com (you can do free account) Play any song, it should give sound on all speakers, put your ear next to each speaker to identify if all work.
