Afterburner not detecting FPS and RivaTuner won't display in game
Long story short, 780 Lightning died last night while watching a replay (strangest thing, but that's another story), bought a Gigabyte 970 today (temporary until Nvidia releases the next series). Uninstalled all existing drivers and AB while running the Intel onboard graphics. Installed 970, ran driver and Gigabyte OC client software from CD, downloaded latest AB, had latest RT already so didn't reinstall, downloaded Nvidia latest driver. Nada. Tried going back a few versions, still nothing.

Everything else in AB is recording activity but nothing for framerate, FPS or ms. I've tried moving the OSD to the middle of the screen and zooming it way in to ensure I wasn't missing it off the edge of the screen. I've fiddled with practically every combo of settings in RT and AB. No joy :( Any ideas? Thanks.

This game is running me a lot of money. Upgraded my Logitech Momo FFB to a G27 setup for $250 then another $400 (local w/tax) for the card two days later lol. *sigh*

Edit: I forgot to mention it works just fine in other games that I've tried (Wolfenstein, Antichamber, Risen, FFIII).

You might wanna try uninstalling RT and re-installing it even thought you have the newest version installed. I just move to AB from Precision X and after updating AB I had the same kinda problem, hope it helps.

Why is it that the one thing you don't try is always the answer? lol, thanks TruBlu. Not sure why I didn't reinstall it before. Although, maybe I did because I seem to remember the popup box when you uninstall asking if you want to keep your settings. Regardless, it works and now I'm happy. Much more poorer than I was two days ago...but happy. Loving this game.

Although, now that I look closer. In the OSD it shows the actual framerate but the charts that AB is logging shows 0 FPS. Weird.

use steam FPS counter :)

Thanks. A friend of mine actually just told me about that a little earlier. I like to monitor a few other things too so I prefer AB but always good to have a backup plan.

I think I used that a long while back, six years or so when I had an EVGA card (GTX 260, how far we've come). I'll dig around on Google and see what the differences are. Again, thanks for the suggestion.

I still can't believe this game toasted my 780 Lightning (no OC). No artifacting, fans never went close to 100% until everything locked up and automatically rebooted and at that point it was a huge jump in fan speed with no video output. 99% sure I had it set to auto or with a custom curve that ramped up fan speeds around 70C and quickly beyond that and not on a hard setting of say 60%. Temps never got above low 80's from what I noticed and replays certainly never close to 90.

its not the game that toasted it its just the card and one of them things maybe you ran it too hot
i have a evga gtx 780 and my temps on ac never go over 60c with a fan curve 60c = 60% fan

best way to avoid high temps is to keep the load daown by adding a frame limit mine is at 83 fps

Lightnings have a habit of dying. Mine died last month, watercooled the whole time, 17 months and never overclocked out of the Ab sliders and never over hot. When get round to replacing the cooler will rma it.

Haha, yeah, I realize the game didn't send a video card killing signal spike :P I meant more that the game stressed it so hard at the settings I was using that it toasted (only game I own that has pushed it so hard). Only thing I can think is too hot for too long but from what I've been able to gather it should have been fine to upwards of 90C for a few hour session. I was expecting some warning before complete failure like artifacts, fans ramping up to/near 100%, or general instability.

Frame limiter wouldn't have helped in this case considering my FPS was mostly in the 40's, quite sure it never saw 60. I have used it in other games though, thanks for the tip.

jUSTCantAim, is that true? I was unaware of that but I can't say I've tried to find out how unreliable they are though lol. Sorry to hear yours toasted too. Had mine about the same time frame as well.

you have shadow play just turn that on and switch on the fps counter :P
