just got this game. Why is modding stupid?
Every site i've been to wants me to pay them before actually using the site. maybe a couple free mods, and content manager is literally useless unless you pay for it. Coming from beamng, it feels like there just isnt any mod options unless i shell out a bunch of money. its annoying that I was told to get this game because of the amazing modding scene and cant install a single mod without paying even more for content for a game thats ancient.

And there's me always thinking how blessed we are in the AC community because most of the mods are free, actually an overwhelming amount. And in my mind, if I have to pay a few dollars to some of the people who have really helped keep this sim alive over the last 10 years, a few dollars for the full version of content manager amazing launcher, or Pure weather, or an updated version of my favorite car in the game (URD 2021 911 RSR $5), I'm fine with it because just as they give their time and life to make AC better for us, the end users, I'm also happy to give back as a way of showing thanks. It is the modders after all that have kept AC alive and kicking over the last decade.

If paying for some quality mods doesn't sit right with you, just stick to the free mods. Simple. Or don't play at all. You have many options.

my problem is I can't find the free mods. all the sites i find want me to pay for a membership, ac content manager i was told to download has the "mods" tab locked behind a paywall. beyond frustrating that it seems like i cant even start modding without paying. I'd love to know where all of these free mods are.
i suggest assettoworld
there's over 10,000 free car mods (though at vastly different quality levels XD) and over 2,000 track mods. also you should check out yezhrod's patreon (you can get his mods for free). racedepartment also has some good track mods.

you mean searching for the websites?
https[colon]//www[dot]overtake[dot]gg
https[colon]//www[dot]assettoworld[dot]com/
fyi i searched "racedepartment" and the first thing that showed up was the overtake[dot]gg website. i searched "assettoworld" and the first thing that showed up was the Assetto World youtube channel, which has a link to the assettoworld website.
i didnt know the names of the sites, being new to modding. so, no, i did not search for anything by the name of it's site or creator. i searched "assetto corsa mods"

i understand having an account when its setup kinda like a forum, i was complaining about the sites that dont let you even begin modding without paying. like i dont even get to try it, as if the mods were all dlc quality. i am currently living on a budget so this stuff is rough. coming from BeamNG, i completely understand the difference between free mods and paid mods, and the quality that comes.

rfactor2 would be your best option for free mods.

Sites like overtake (where most good mods are) are free to join, just obfuscated on how to join. If you look hard enough there is a button.

As for CM being useless, if yod drive mostly MP, there is nothing useful in paid CM. And if you play SP, you can still use old kunos launcher to access all SP features there while using all the modded settings from CM. So in practice only custom career i think is really "paywalled".

My personal favorite free mod site, basically has all the free mods in the world for AC in one place..

https://brasilsimulatormods.com/search/

Probably the most popular mod site in the world for AC, as it is very trusted. Previously called race department. I don't care for the name change. Create free account here..

brasilsimulatorstudios doesn't have all the free mods; i think assettoworld is better
brasilsimulator studios only had 1 acura, an arx-06, while assettoworld has 42 acuras, including 3 arx-06's, and other cars like gt3's. i also like having a larger variety of the same car, o i can find the best mod.
