Blank screen on racing start-up
Trying to get Assetto Corsa running, however whilst the Launcher screens work absolutely fine, when starting a race I simply get a blank screen (black with periodic random grey flashes). Sound is there and I can hear the background sounds from crowd/ambience... but no car sounds nor visuals.

Have a Dell laptop of around 2011 vintage running i7-2630WM 2Ghz 8GB Ram with Windows Home Premium 64bit SP1. I think the video card is Nvidia GeForce GT555M.... which runs DX11 fine.

Seems to be a 3D failure... the loading screen is fine and only when loaded and ready to play do I get the screen that shows no visuals whilst the sound continues. Noticed that cannot press F11 to get stats... no keypress is accepted... need to ALT-TAB to the desktop and then close the ACS process. This then automatically brings back to Launcher which is still working fine. Tried running as Administrator, checking the Firewall settings, turning off HDR and running in non-full-screen mode. Same result every time.

Very odd! Any thoughts anyone?

I had same kind of problem. My problem was a black screen after I pressed the start button and it also froze entire computer. Problem was caused by MSI afterburner. I removed the program and then everything worked.

I've had a look and can't see what would impact this. I have the standard nvidia drivers... I'm sure up-to-date but will check. I don't have any special software other than the standard Dell software that came with the computer... so no special software like MSI's afterburner. How do you locate the potential issue? Pretty sure it is something conflicting with the video drivers in DX11 mode.... but doesn't affect any of the other games I've purchased through Steam. Will have to wait for next update I think.

Post on the official forums. Might get help there. From devs, even.

Aha! Cheers for that... most appreciated. I thought this was the official forum as bought through Steam - but will look up the correct forum link and post there. Hopefully will get a fix that way!

sometimes you have to alt-tab

Hello

When the black screen strikes, does Alt+Enter do anything? More than a few people have had similar issues where simply changing the resolution with Alt+Enter has sorted it.

I'd also close all processes before running Assetto Corsa.

Thanks all. I've tried the Alt+Enter, run in windowed mode as well as full screen and changed the resolution. My laptop is a Dell that has a full HD screen so tried 1920x1080 all the way down to 1024x768. All of these tried at 60Hz. Same problem every time with only sound and no visuals (bar the periodic grey flash). Also tried non-HDR. Unfortunately nothing works. Have sent log file to developers on official forum now... will see if they are able to analyse. Will update if I find anything out from them. Game looks awesome.... sooooo want this to run!

If dxdiag reports DirectX 11 support, it doesn't necessarily mean -all- directx 11 components are in use, or are supported by your hardware.

As a last resort, you can refer to this page, which tells you how you can permit AC to run using slightly earlier hardware (and direct X).

Cheers for that. Tried it out... but same problem. Checked on the Nvidia site and it says that the GT 555M is DirectX 11 compatible... so hopefully should work either way. Unfortunately not as have the blank screen with background sounds and no keypresses or Xbox 360 controller buttons are recognised. I had one response so far from developers but log file I submitted seemed to show all ok - maybe that is because am quitting the game (in windowed mode) and this brings me back to the menus which are still active/working. Maybe I need to run on another computer? Oh well. Might have to see what the next update provides....

There are several video cards that are indeed Direct X 11 compatible, but do not yet fully support the DX11 shader models. This problem comes up often on the "Golf Club" forum.
