Xbox 360 controller custom controls
I just bought the game, and found that Assetto Corsa forces me to use the triggers on the Xbox 360 controller for gas and brake. This setup is terrible for me, but the controller options do not allow me to change the throttle and brake control to the right stick, anybody know how to do this?

Of course I own it - just not linked to this account - yup just back from a long session of AC

But I have seen the light in the very few hours I have been playing with my new F710 and the Triggers for Accelerate and Brake and A = gear up and X gear down. Admittedly the triggers are tiring on the fingers but hopefully the springs will slacken just a little and I will become more accustomed to their use.

This game requires much more finesse driving. If you set the X and A to accelerate and brake, then it means either 0 or 100% accelerate or brake and that does not produce finesse.

I thought the Trigger would take much more time to get used to but I am delighted how quickly I am getting to grips with it - give it a try and stick with it.

noone is ever going to convince me that a logitech gamepad is better then the microsoft x1

Did you read my post buddy - it's not about which gamepad is best - it's that triggers are required for accelerate and brake

♥♥♥♥ assetto corsa! why would you make a racing game but not implement all game pad styles. waste of my money... I will take back all the bad thigns i said about this game once this is fixed.

Wow, I can't believe it. I just bought this game and it didn't occur to me for one second that you wouldn't be able to use the right stick for throttle/brake. This is so disappointing...

Ya wish they fix it but hey if not before project cars comes out i'm deleting this game and just playing that instead. I've been complaining about this issue since early access. Don't like using triggers when I race, I thought this was my racing sim not stuck with crappy trigger controls. Plus I tried using the wheel controls but everytime I do that hand brake locks up everything. Game just sits in my libary not being played.

Damn, just bought the game. Thought it was a mistake that I can't use the right stick.
Oh well, refund it is then.

Get XPadder - it makes the controller work great. Not sure about a windows 10 version though

That would be a sad, pathetic choice. Don't do it. AC is fantastic. This thread just told you how to address your complaint.

It is a racing sim, the point isn't to make it compatible with console styles of play. Your one issue is very minor and learning to use the triggers will make a huge difference in your lap times.

Sorry for the necro-bump but I just bought the game and I'm looking for the same thing as other people in this topic and this attitude pisses me off to no end.

Remember the fact that this game was released ON CONSOLES and even they didn't get any option to remap the controls, which makes this doubly stupid. This is something that should have been patched long ago but it looks like it was never fixed.....

There's NO logical reason in ANY game not to include custom control mapping options to let people set the game up the way they want to. Custom control mapping options have existed since the days of 2D 16bit systems with 3 button and 6 button controllers, so why would any developer ignore that fact and deliberately limit their game???

Hey man, I just happened to be looking through the discussions about pad configs and came across this thread.....

I use a XB360 pad and use the right thumb stick for throttle/brake in this game with no problems, you simply need to select any one of the pad presets that gives you the option to map all of the buttons, in my case I used one of the Thrustmaster pad presets. This allows you to simply map your buttons how you want.

Tried that, while that option does let me use the right stick for gas and brake, it's still incomplete because I can't bind the clutch and handbrake to the same axis. The triggers are seen as being on the same axis, and you cannot use the same axis for different things.

I usually use the triggers for clutch and handbrake wherever possible, but this game refuses to let people do any kind of complete controller mapping, there's always some stupid limitation.

Next to the right stick there's a checkbox named "combined" which balances input from both axis as if they were on completely different sticks.

That little checkbox needs to be there for the clutch and handbrake options as well.

Eventually I do plan on buying a full steering wheel setup when I can afford it, but no racing game should make that expensive setup near-mandatory by screwing over controller users when a simple config patch would fix so many things.

The modders who are making custom cars and tracks and other tools and apps for this game need to find a way to fix this.
