Locked gear ratios
Is there some reason that tweaking gear ratios is disabled for so many cars? I realise it's not necessarily realistic to be messing around with the gearbox of a Fiat 500 but it's totally an optional thing so it seems a shame to prevent people from being able to do it if they want.

I believe you just said it, it is not realistic and Kunos tries to recreate the cars in the state they are in reality. However, you may make a suggestion on the official AC forums, maybe they'll put it sometime in the future.

Yeah you said it yourself, it isn't realistic.

I'm not sure how Kunos have to model the cars as they're officially licensed, Kunos might not be allowed to release the cars with such options due to restrictions in the licensing for that particular manufacturer.
I bet once the modding tools are released you'll be able to change whatever you want within reason.

Kunos have fairly strictly said their content is not moddable and the key files are encrypted, I see no issue with keeping stock cars as they are. Will make for better racing with the general users not really into making setup changes with the cars that have very limited options.

Wait for the full version of the game and buy and fit a fully adjustable gear box on any car you want. This will be possible, right? I sure hope we can buy (I mean in-game, not as a DLC pack) and fit different tuning parts to any car in the defenitive version of AC.

If that were true the NFS series would have died years ago. On a side note, if a game dev cant get a license, its perfectly legal to put an unlicensed car in game, just rebadged

Fiat 500 has one set of gears in real life so I don't see why it should be any different in Assetto Corsa. After all it's a racing sim, not a simcade.

The limited set ups in some of the events, are, I think, put there to give a more level playing field. A newcomer to sim' racing can judge his progress against the fast guys, having the same basic set up at least. I suppose it is Kunos catering for all in the game and of course to keep them. :)

I take peoples point about it not being realistic, but on the other hand in real life you can swap out the gearbox of a Fiat. I'd quite like to see that sort of thing in AC just because it would be loads of fun to mess around with. I do appreciate that it stops it being a level playing field, but there are ways around that which various driving games have explored.

All said though I appreciate that it is outside of the scope of the game at the moment, I am mostly just interested in hearing peoples thoughts on it.

they can not make everyone happy. I personally feel this situation is more realistic, if you wanna change the gear ratios, pick a car that you can do that... that is my opinion...

Well, I don't understand why the Pagani Zonda R has gear ratios locked. The 'R' means Racing edition, so why would anyone buy a racing version of the Zonda if there're no optional gear-sets available? Is the Zonda R geared only for Nurbrugring Nordschleife?

If they allowed you to put in an after market gearbox or whatnot on stock cars like that, I would want to see a section on the leader boards for modified production cars.

Oh yes, this is totally going to happen in Assetto Corsa.

I dream about the possibility of instaling rocket launcher and guns in cars . also some kind of booster is needed. wow that would be awesome !!!

Clearly you've not driven the Aston Martin DB5 in Assetto Corsa; It has rocket launchers, headlamp machine guns, an oil slick and smoke screen as well as an ejector seat.
