Is it too bad with a controller or something?
Hi there folks, this is a question I've been wondering for a tad. I've been playing AC for a while, since early access, but always with a controller (PS3) and always have found quite hard to do some decent laps without any mistakes. Mistakes like leaving the track, loosing control when the back gets loose, and making good corners, are kind of common with me, and taking slow makes them easier to miss, but, everytime I try putting some hotlaps, I can't have decent times or validated, due to mistakes.

I know this game is a sim, and a very good one, and I like it, but, I'm worried many of my problems stated above are due to the fact that I'm playing this with a controller, and not a proper wheel.

Another point is that I can't have a driver's licenses because of a disability on my sights, so maybe my lack of knoledge on how real cars handle and how it feels might play another role... Those are only theories though, still, I kep trying to do well, and hope it all comes down to my controller configuration or anything of that sort, hehe.

I'm also driving with stability and traction controls, off. Have only ABS at full and throttle blip, as I'm driving it in sequential gear changes

I'm looking forward on any tips from you guys, cheers!

The game is possible to play with a controller but from my experience it is very difficult to control the car properly and is almost impossible to control the car if the back gets too loose. It's a much better game with a wheel, and whilst playable with a controller don't expect to be challenging people with wheels online or beating their times.

The developers suggested to use at least 65% stability assist when using a controller.

Well, indeed it's quite hard to control the car if the back get's too much off, and when I correct, or at least try, it goes the other way and spins... a bit like snap oversteering, if it can be called like that. Drifting? way too off of hand xD

Thanks, I'm gonna try that and see how it goes. I still hope someday I'll complete the green hell with a valid lap time, and then, under 10 minutes, at least

ive bought alot of expensive crap in my life, consoles, projector, graphics cards, RAM, cpus, etc. With almost everyone 1 of those things there was a moment when i thought hmm did i really need this, did i really need a 780ti couldnt i had just gotten a 770 instead ....
But when it comes to my wheel :steamhappy: i never had any thoughts like that, i knew right away this was a great buy, money well spent.

I'd say it is fairly bad with a controller. You can still have fun and enjoy the game to an extent, but don´t expect to be able to go really really fast with all cars and be able to make really fast turns with finesse.

Seems like after the dream pack update , it has become even harder on pad users. This game is to be played with a wheel, and I don´t blame them for doing that.

No wonder why the dev won't make an alternate option for easy driving on controllers. Some devs like PD, T10, and CM managed to make it playable on controllers and slightly harder on wheels (but still gets better time than pad users).

Yeah, That's the downside I feel. It's too hard and kind of unmasterable with a controller, specially with powerful cars and tracks with bumpy sections during corners and whatnot. Sadly when I tried a wheel once, it was too unpractical for me to own one myself... guess I'll end up perfecting myself as far as I can with a controller though >.>

Rouward, the only drawbacks on those guys making it good for controllers, is that they need to omit some of the reactions of the cars that AC gives back, so making other games more simcades, and not toal simulators. Maybe someday both wheels and controllers can get to play more similarly on simulators

This game lacks a steering assist that some other sims do have to make it consistently playable in hectic situations with anything other than a steering wheel while demanding the same sort of dexterity. A gamepad is a very imprecise analog input device and sims like Forza have a steering assist to remedy that.

This is quite a big deal for people wanting to play with a controller.

Well it's coming to consoles (ewww) so I imagine they're working on better Pad controls. But get a wheel. Even a cheapo wheel off craigslist will be 100000x better.
A wheel collides with RL and wife easily, that is the problem. :steamsad:

turn stability off or down,
speed_sensativity to 50%
steering_speed up to 75% or 100%
gamma 2.5
filter 0.80
dead zone 0.08
some cars, your not going to get anywhere with a controller with the traction control off.

fawk i am sooooo lazy to get my steer on my desk.....damnit........also it's a deal to get used to AGAIN.

I DO hope they work on better pad controls without sacrificing the realistic ways cars react to the forces applied. Because even if I could get the best wheel on the market for only $1 single buck, I wouldn't get it because I'd be unable to use by my current conditions... So my best hope is that pad users get some attention as well.

Yesterday got myself a similar setup to try:

speed_sensativity 0,25 on the config file
steering_speed 100%
gamma 2.1
filter 0.82
dead zone 0.04

It made things a lot easier to stay on a constant turning radious, and easir for quick reactions to save the car. Guess I'll work around that and get something that suits me best, thanks!

Made myself a video of a lap on the Nurburgring with the Cobra 427 S/C. Drove it with a controller assists off. Was quite pleased with the results, as I'm kind of a begginer and more of an enthusiast
