After new update .20 I start steam and then click on game and get message:

steam cannot be initialized. closing

Interesting, thanks for the heads up. I've noticed that there's a couple of things that have changed as well, for example, in my library, it now tells me my playtime and when I last played in glorious technicolour, whereas before it just had a big black and white box saying last time I played. I assume, whatever was the problem has also been interfering with my steam updates too.

I have two problems atm launching AC, maybe this might help you.

Check if the steam_appID.txt file is present in the AC folder.

\Steam\SteamApps\common\assettocorsa\

if the file isn't present, create a text file with the correct name and inside the file type in:

244210

Also post your problem with log files on the official forums, the Devs are very fast to help.

I bought AC a couple weeks ago, but waited until today's release candidate to try it for the first time, and got this exact issue. I first verified my installer, and checked that my properties weren't customized, neither worked. I'm running from an administrator account.

I'm in the process of reinstalling Steam from scratch.

I'd say this release candidate has a serious issue (!)

comodo antivirus in my case. after picking the option for assetto corsa to be fully trusted, i had to log into steam once again. (win7 x64)

instead of re installing steam i just ran the steamsetup.exe again and that worked for me I didn't have to download anything

if some of u still got that error, just close steam from task manager and then open it and open the game, mine worked :)

Closing the Steam client, restarting it and then running the game worked! Cheers.
