LMPs are somekind of very unique cars (downforce bigger than that of F1, huge speed, acceleration and stability) that's why they are so interesting, given the fact we have excellent laser scanned Nordscheife in AC to make various races, runs, hotlaps. I hope that URD continues to develop the beta (Audi R18 has been rumored to be released this month).
So title of post is not correct.
Second, do they have permission from Kunos to sell this?
Do they have permission from the car makers/racing teams?
When people start asking for money for something it opens a whole different level of copyright and trademark things that should be made clear.
Just a name or a logo that is trademark will need permission, that is how trademarks work.
In the UK likeness is something that can be copyrighted so..
They do not need permission from Kunos....
Do they have permission from the car makers/racing teams?
They do not need permission from car makers/racing teams....
:D
1. Yes, they have permission from KUNOS, KUNOS supports them, after all, they created the official C7R.
2. They do not need permission from the car manufacturers, because they do not use real cars, fake names and logos. They've been doing this for years, they haven't had any trouble yet.
I swear, these same questions come up every time URD is mentioned.
So why is it worth buying? What does it do exactly?
What does it add?
Well, I may reveal you a secret, but the original idea of AC was an open architecture game where Kunos supplies the base (essential cars and tracks) and modders make the remaining majority of content. Some cars will never be in AC because licensing agreements are achived only upon certain models from the factory line-up.
Also have you ever heard about such things as replicas in real automotive world? Shelby Cobra, Ford Mustang' 67 replicas? Constructors make basically 1:1 copies of the real legendary cars, place badges and branding but sell them as replicas, declaring that it is a copy of the original product.
For example there is such modder as Showmebest from www.assettocars.net (probably the second payware stuff maker who deserves attention besides URD), who sells very high quality Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and some other addons declaring them as being replicas, which means replicating the actual cars. Everybody is bashing him that he uses "ripped", "illegal" etc. content but nobody can provide proof that his cars were actually ripped, where they were ripped from, how etc. People even don't pay attention that he uses the word "Replica" in the name of each his addon, only crying about the fact that he uses real logos and model designations (but real life replica makers like those who replicate Shelby Cobra also use real branding).
I mean there is some ambiguity in the approach towards mods being "legit or not" and in common understanding of general purpose of the mods as an expansion of the game content.
If it uses a real name, it's illegal. If it uses a real logo, it's illegal.
A car replica manufacturer has to have permission to create the replicas. If AssettoCars is selling them, that is illegal because of copyright law.
Also, most of those cars WERE ripped from either Forza, or Real Racing 3.
