Why do the cars sound so terrible?
I just got the dream car #2 pack, expecting the the Ruf would sound something like a 911. Well it doesn't, I don't understand how the sound design is so bad in this game.

Do they even record real cars at all when they make the engine noises? it's just horribly synthesized... NONE of the cars sound anything like an actual car engine, nevermind the car they are modeled after.

Pretty sad that this game labels itself as a simulator, if I wanted to play a game with accurate sounding cars I'd be better off playing Need For Speed.

Can we see some comparison sounds between game car and real life car?

Which cars have you driven.

RUF and porsche are different so comparing it is like comparing a german shepard to a dachshund. Same species, different breed.

Try some other cars.

If you think they've done an amateurish job, record better sounds and mod them in yourself.
LEAD THE WAY, O' SUPERIOR HUMAN.

[For those of your playing at home: The interiors and exteriors of the RUF sound similar to iRacing's solution. So what do we think is more likely: Two seperate, highly-experienced devs completely missed the mark, or the OP (without a solution himself) has no idea what he's talking about?]

Watch any Youtube videos of any the cars that are in the game, they aren't even close. iRacing has absymal engine noises as well. Sim Racer developers clearly just don't care enough about sound design. Look at Codemasters games, they are miles ahead.

I just don't get how people can listen to these terrible unrealistic engine noises for the hours it takes to get good at it.

The solution: Take money earned by the sales of the game, get in the actual cars and put microphones all over it, use real recordings of the cars in place of the synthesised trash that they are using.

I thought they sounded quite good really, I believe they have invested quite a bit of money into new methods of recording sounds too - do you have any idea how hard it is to get a virtual car to sound realistic? Only a few devs have managed it over the years, look at Gran Turismo for instance and the insane amount of money they pump into car sounds, the end result is cars sounding like vaccuum cleaners.

Right?

I wouldn't go that far. iRacing has their old schoolers leaving left and right as of late due to them caring more about their image rather than solid racing. :D

Oh yeah...
Because uber-compressed video of GoPros capturing audio of a car they're stuck to are going to do a more accurate job than thousands of dollars worth of microphones and pre-amps strategically placed around cars/tracks.
S-A-R-C-A-S-M.

You're clueless.
Quit while you're ahead.

Most of those cams are from outside and near the exhaust. Did you hear the sound from the cockpit, for example at min. 13:00 ?

Now compare in game or to the video below

Sounds are ok, but when I play raceroom or a well done car in rfactor 2 I really wish AC could sound like those.
MasterDon Oct 12, 2015 @ 10:11am
the P1 sounds pretty close to the real life P1 much better than project cars

@Da-Bradler: I cannot comment on the RUF-sound. However, generally speaking, the sounds of Assetto Corsa are in my view one of the best if not the best sounds in the genre. I was at the Nürburgring last month for the final of the Blancpain Endurance Series and had the opportunity to listen to the real sounds of all the GT3-cars. The sounds in Assetto Corsa are very close if not identical to the real ones. Absolutely amazing.
