When you say "car sounds" do you mean you can't hear the engine only but can hear the wind, tyres and other stuff? or no sound whatsoever?

First thing I would do is go into audio options there is a slider called latency have a play with that to see if it improves.

I did that, and validated the files

Did you install any mods? But try official game content in practice mode, not in race. And check your sound settings in realtek/windows.

I do have mods... but sound works on some cars but not all.

If you install car mods that don't have working sound, it means either they are outdated or you need to install some sound fix.
Are there any cars from official content that don't have working sounds? Certain versions of the sound fix mod can break official car engine sounds.

If those mod cars from the official forum, you can ask in the thread for the respective car: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php#modding-discussions.21

I have the sound problem with some cars and the issue of icons not showing up on the race result screen. It just has the word select. After messing around for a while, I decided to reinstall AC. Before that, I deleted every file on my system which has anything to do with AC, which means all my settings, etc. will be back to square one. It will be interesting to see if a complete reinstall fixes these 2 problems.

The couple of cars I tried which had no sound are now OK. The racing summary screen still has no icons. There's even an option to show a smaller version of the race summary. I tried it, but it didn't make any difference and the screen didn't look any smaller to me.

I'm really surprised that only a small number of people have reported the missing icon problem. It's not that there's a difference between people with Nvidia and AMD cards, because there isn't. People with both cards have reported it. If it was only happening to one, maybe it could be argued it has something to do with drivers. I've had the most recent AMD driver for quite a bit longer than when this round of updates happened. I had no problems with the icons before all the recent AC updates.

Have you tried the clear car preview cache to see if that did any good? I haven't run into this issue myself ...yet. it probably won't do anything for the summary icons, but something to try. Also maybe a driver update, could be a corruption somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't noticed that option before. Do you know if it's new?

I don't know if there would be any cache to clear after reinstalling the game. The problem was there right after my first race. I'll certainly try it, though.

The option has been there for a while, I've had to use it on occasion after an update for user made cars, but not lately.

Don't forget, when you uninstall and it may appear all is cleared out from your SteamApps folder on your install drive, there is also an Assetto Corsa folder in your Documents folder that could have remnants of files that can cause some corruption. Sometimes those don't all get removed when uninstalling. other than that, I can only suggest reporting to the official forums and maybe someone will be able to help further: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php

Good luck and have fun on the track!

I didn't just have Steam delete the files. I went through every folder on my system which had anything to do with AC and deleted it. That included the stuff in my documents. When I reinstalled it, I was back to a "virgin" system like I'd never played it before. I had to do all my settings from scratch and all progress I had made in Career mode was gone, as were stats for things like times achieved on tracks.

Thanks for the link to the forum. That's already on my to-do list.

Edit: One thing I did recently was turn off PPE. I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it. Will turn it on and see what happens.

Well, well. I turned PPE back on and now the icons are back. Very strange.
Grenth Dec 28, 2015 @ 10:25am
How the in-game/replay PPE would effect the summary icons is strange indeed. Good to know though.
