I totally understand it's an easy place to find mods, but it's not a place I would recommend.
Youtube makes money off of channels that aren't monetized because ads still play... i guess you don't mind using youtube though?
If he (assettoland) spends time finding mods, and gather them in one place, and i don't have to pay... and he makes money from ads on his site... that's fine with me, i lost nothing, the mod creators lost nothing.
Rather that, than people that make mods and don't want to release them, but are damn glad to get followers, likes, people joining their discord etc...
Anyways, no hard feels, and he was just asking for places to get mods, let's keep the discussion to that and not who likes what site or not ;)
Cheers.
The reasons I've seen stated by these creators are the fact they quite often strictly state not to re-host their work (ie Ben O'Bro's 911 Singers) and that assettoland rarely updates their re-hosted mods, meaning that end users can sometimes end up with faulty mods due to changes in CSP etc. Also worth noting, there has recently been a number of well known creators pull their mods from public access due to re-hosting issues and encryption cracking. So in a way supporting these practices may well reduce the availability of quality mods.
With regards to YouTube, that’s a platform where people specifically upload their content to. If YouTube went around the internet taking peoples videos without permission and uploading them you can be sure there would be issues with that. And if you upload something that isn’t yours, well copyright controls take care of that.
Regardless, it's not an issue I personally have, just the people who take the time to make these mods and pass them onto the community.
Anyway, back to our normal broadcast.
https://perendinator.blogspot.com/ It has great cars from a famous modder. I forgot his name though. i think its Legion. The best formula mod cars are from Race Sim Studio. it is a paid mod but it worth every penny. Also Pessio Garage. ASR formula, Shaun Clark, AC legends and others. Gt Planet and Facebook have many cars too.
I think you didn't get my point with the google search. If you had no idea that "porsche" was a brand, you're not going to go on google and write "download porsche for assetto"... Get what i'm saying? Not everyone knows how to do what you or i do, and vise versa :)
As for the other points you made, some decent ones that i agree with. I'm a "modder", no pro though and not known at all, but i would never encrypt any of my mods. Reason being, i'm just not "egocentric or selfish". That's just how i see it, i share freely even after spending a long time :)
You got a good point with the updating part, but that brings me back to google search, if you HAVE a porsche in AC that is now broken due to update, you know what to look for and you will find the updated version from the original hoster/modder on the "original" site. In theory :)
As for the decrypting/cracking of files... that will always happen. If there's a lock, someone will dig and find a way to get access. If you don't want to share your mod... don't share it at all. If you share it, your mod will still be your mod even if someone edits it to make their own version of it. You still have the original one, still the main creator. Anyone can take credit for a mod without being the creator, with an encrypted mod or not, can just upload to their site and say they made it. And even sell it...
I've never understood the "not sharing" idea, unless you want to make money off of it. If you're sharing it for free... then just share it xD If it's a paid mod, i get it, and it's fair. I don't mind paying for a good mod. Buuut if there's a little thing i don't like about it, now that i bought it... i kinda still would like to be able to change it. Still props to the original creator, i just want it my way now that it's "mine" :)
True about youtube, it was just an analogy.
Cheers everyone and once again sorry for the unrelated post :)
Good luck with the mod hunting!
1 - it works and has no software bugs
2 - it works and is compatible with the most important mods (CSP etc)
3 - it is not excessively easy or excessively difficult to drive
Obviously the opposite for a "bad" car
So when I search a car site, I would like to find "good" cars.
What do you guys think?
