Is high octane fuel needed/required to make an engine run? = no
Is it necessary to use high octane fuel for optimum performance? = yes
Can a different brand of high octane fuel be used? = yes
Hope that my silly IRL (octane) analogy was helpful in answering your questions.
If not, spending some time in the Online MP Server Lobby might be beneficial in
providing you with the answers as well.
For example its possible to have real time weather changes based on sol presets, which is not part of original AC and i think it will kick you out when attempting to join. But that is only really useful for endurance racing, as normal servers just reset after each race and that allows for weather change without sol/csp.
ps: oh and i think the driver swap app, real penalty (thats also used to extend anti cheating) also demands sol, but might be wrong.
