Though, I'd argue it's got more value even at full price. But I am lazy and have no interest in explaining all that.
The thing is, you really want a wheel. If you are a controller user, YMMV. Some controller users find a way. It is possible. But GT7 is probably better for those users. But GT7 isn't a PC title, so it's not even a real option for many.
No, there is a big difference. Gt7 is more like an action game where a controller is fine. In AC you recognize the controller people by how they always crash in one of the first 5 corners, and cars without ABS/TC are like hardly driveable with a contoller... unless you rly good with it.
The super duper high tier force feedback given from high end wheels means very little if you don't have (good) pedals, meanwhile, force feedback is just a signal of the terrain anyway.
Theoretically, if you somehow managed to drive in a way that is optimal without needing to feel the curb rattling you first, then not only would the FFB be less important, but you'd still need the pedals to fine tune your speed and braking anyway.
Or another way around, let's say you have wheel and good FFB in it, but no pedals to work with the cues given to you.
Not that useful to have FFB then.
Thus, if you have neither peripheral, you will have the best yield in performance with pedals, imho.
Steering is less tricky than velocity, and thus mass control.
But I don't have any scientific argument or anything, this is just my logical reasoning.
Edit:
I don't want to imply that control is pointless, but I do think that controllers cover the average motion range well enough.
They'll be a bit inferior if you spin out and have to really do hardcore turns, including 180+, but for normal racing? Yeah, pedals give you more control, I'd say.
If I had to choose one of the above to enjoy with a gamepad, I'd choose FM. If I had a wheel and pedals and a proper sim rig, AC all the way.
Same difference here, they're not really directly comparable.
GT7 is arcade like and easy to play on a controller sure, but once you use a wheel, all the background assists come right off.
it is a simulation through and through, and it's an amazing experience with a wheel.
Assetto Corsa has alot of mods, but in their purest form, GT7 obliterates AC, even Competizione.
visuals, sound design, as well as contentwise, GT7 is the better sim racer.
(if you have a wheel)
i would argue that AC is unplayable on a gamepad though.
i tested both games on Logitech G23 and G Pro DD Wheel, GT7 with PSVR2.
Bruh I've played GT7 with a wheel and there is NO WAY it "obliterates AC", not even close. You'd have to be insane to argue that GT7 is a pure sim, because it simply isn't, even with a wheel.
and AC is more of a sim at what point in time, exactly?
which mods do you need to put in there to make it more sim-like?
because out of the box, it's not any more realistic than GT7.
