Then I add a few mods to make everything look nicer, CSP, PURE, SOL, filters, etc, and now I get around 100-140FPS flat screen.
Then I switch to VR and up the pixel density for a little extra sharpness and now I'm hovering around 60-80FPS on a full server.
But the main thing is even in VR with lower FPS, everything feels and looks smooth so I don't care about the FPS counter.
I was going to say it's probably due to your GTX 1660 TI but if you say it was running higher before then it's now lower because of a change you've made. Could be a mod, a ppfilter, etc.
Try undoing any changes you've made recently since you've noticed your frames drop.
Also in your pic, try dropping shadows resolution to 1024x1024, will gain you some extra frames.
Without reducing the graphics a lot lower and the target resolution lower so it will look bad, you're not going to make 72fps native with that GPU.
Now check next to LIMIT FRAME RATE. and confirm that it is set to 90 FPS.
I have 2 presets saved. 1 is for Openvr with FPS capped top 91 and the other for single screen with a higher FPS as I can get more FPS when not using VR. I use higher FPS when recording saved replays. I also increase the main screen resolution higher as my GTX1080 can handle more intense graphical demands under single screen than the GPU hungry Openvr.
I also recommend you buy fpsVR on steam. This handy utility will show you where your bottlenecks are at a glance including frame rate generation and timings for both your CPU and GPU. You will also notice some tracks / car combos are more demanding than others especially the number of AI cars and most demanding is any rain.
Have you confirmed that it is not a global issue with other VR games or the FPS is low only for Assetto Corsa?
If you can only make 70fps on a monitor and VR is more than twice the required performance, then you can't do anything other than get a better GPU.
Assetto Corsa is not a for-VR built game, other VR games are optimised to run at good framerates, AC is a monitor built game with VR tacked on.
If you are using Quest you can try to disable ASW using CTRL+NUMPAD 1 whilst in game, if you are using any other VR headset, you're basically out of luck.
I believe you need a better GPU for VR. Your 11th gen i7 should be fine.
You must turn off most of the bells and whistles especially weather effects, world detail low, MSSA x4 and reflections @ 256x256.
What made the most difference was dropping my Vive Pro resolution down to 90% with little loss of fidelity and the game runs absolutely fine. The extra 10% res caused major high projection and brings in a little stutter. With the use of FpsVR, I was able to find the sweet spot for my setup ;)
I don't believe my GTX out performs your RTx3070 by any means so I suggest that you do a DDU clean install of your GPU driver then with FpsVR running, start the game with the lowest setting and work your way up. FpsVR will show you when you are pushing the limits then you can dial some of the more GPU intensive settings back a bit.
I also recommend that you check your Nvidia control panel / Manage 3D settings and at the bottom, confirm your VR pre-rendered frames is 1. Mine was set to 2 and killed my machine until I noticed this and reset to 1.
Under Oculus you are running 1.2x resolution, that is way too high for a 1660ti- reduce it back to 1.0x for a start.
4xMSAA is also way too high for a 1660ti in VR, turn it off and reduce shadow resolution.
Your CPU is fine, your GPU is too weak for the settings you have chosen for VR.
