Do you think Assetto Corsa should have a free roam city feature?
Nothing massive but i think it'd be amazing to have a free roaming city to drive round in your favourite car. Racing and time trails are all well and good but sometimes you just want to cruise slowly in your favourite car taking in the atmosphere. If the game had a city map sort of like "Driver, San Francisco" it'd possibly be the greatest car game ever.
Though that's just my opinion, what do you think?

So, mod it in then. "How hard can it be?" Right? :)

I certainly agree with what some somewhat enraged sounding people have said , that this
developer doesn't need to drain resources fulfilling this desire.

But I see and grok what the OP wants and would love that myself. Just not here.

What I think the OP wants is Euro Truck 2 married with UbiSofts upcoming POS
(yes, Piece of Scat) arcade across country game married with, oh name your favorite
car like game with decent crumple crash physics.
I'd toss in a bit of Saints Row 2 or 3 for some real fun options.

All mostly open world.

Yeah I'd pay big bucks for that.

IN the meantime I suggest the OP check out Euro Truck Simulator 2, find a truck
mod with decent sound mod (v8 straight pipe scania pack , for example)
and go 'tooling' . It isn't what you want, city scape wise. But it I think is the closest
one can get at present. I enjoy it, I find it relaxing when NPC' drivers don't make me go postal
. ... .... .... haha.

yah, leave this game as it is, a track based game and hope someone other than Codemasters picks up the idea forming here so it is done right.

I thought of Euro Truck myself while reading this. You could almost make an argument that car mods for Euro Truck would be an "easier' way to accomplish this since a large scale city with traffic would be a much bigger job. I'm pretty sure there are car mods for ETS2, but I have no idea if/how much they change the physics to not handle like a truck. It wouldn't be anything close to AC, but it would probably be a more feasible solution.

I completely understand the desire for an open world game that drives as well as AC though. He's basically wanting Forza Horizon for PC. People would be crazy to think there's not a market for that. I'd buy it in a second. Hell, there's a reason a lot of people would even like to see a new Need For Speed Underground. Driving around recklessly in cars you could never afford without worrying about going to jail just sounds like a good time, haha :)

I would love to have a city to roam, especially for the Oculus Rift.

Following up on my last post, if you have Euro Truck 2, you can get this mod (http://ets2mods.org/2014/06/audi-rs4-mod-version-1-3/#more-5569) and SORT OF accomplish what you're wanting, haha. As I suspected it does handle very truck like though. Definitely not the end objective...but it works with the Rift and was a lot easier to make happen than a city map in AC.

I wasn't talking about you lassie, my comment about people getting frustrated was towards a person a few pages back, the comment to you was that sometimes we need crazy ideas because that's what makes games great. Just an opinion after all. So be a good little boy and run home to your master, i think timmy fell down the well again.

We all need crazy ideas now and again, plus it's pretty funny watching some people get so frustrated with these ideas that they're close to bursting blood vessels.

Look lameo lol that will be the day a person on a fourm gets me frustrated with a crazy idea like putting a city scape in a racing sim not only theres crazy ideas on here theres even crazyer people on here with ideas there dreaming up in there head but it was a nice try lsmeo lol

You mean like The Crew being released soon.

I'd buy a city map as dlc.
Pnume 1 sierpnia 2014 o 14:01
If they update their graphic engine and open a way for third party to sell content for asseto corsa then it will probably come by itself.

Just need to convert an existing city from another game. It could be easy money for another game producer.

I would be hard bucks for a decently done city or other environments

AC on TDU map. Awesome.

That idea is full of win! However, I suspect the time taken to create it would ultimately bankrupt the developer.

Wind through the streets of Toronto. Once again the formula one drivers get their favorite street course to drive again.
Maybe that's a track we could get.

I won't even dignify this with a response.

uh, that is a response.

That aside, explain to me if you will, How resources such as time, money, and skill are infinite?

You guys either didn't read my comment, of missed the point. I wasn't talking about money resources ... I was talking about personal computer resources, like the memory heap being cheap as dirt these days, and virtually unlimited with 64-bit around ... and HD space going for less than a dollar a gigabyte.

Thought I'd sit this out for a few days to see if any of you would take the time to understand ... but as I suspected it's much easier for this gang to throw insults and grandstand.

I think the existence of invisible walls surrounding all the openings on the current selection of tracks indicates the complete disinterest on the part of the developers to allow any sort of open-world exploration.

It's a track-based racing simulator. That's all it'll ever be as far as the devs are concerned.

Do it your self then, they have given you the tools

I would really like open city as well. I used to cruise around in Midtown Madness all the time. Old game, poor physics but it was fun. And I feel like everyone else, TDU or NFS cities but with good physics is full of win.

Drift competition anyone? Race thru the town? You betcha!
Red-light revving?

Every openworld cargame is made 'accessible' which means no physics. Whats the challenge? Whats the fun? We have already 20 of those. Introduce skills back into games.
Remember when you didn't have regening health? When you died it was game over? And start the map all over again. When things took a bit of planning and your actions actually mattered?
I'm talking primarily about FPS games but it bleeds over to every other genre.
BearLover21 2 sierpnia 2014 o 14:14
I want this feature so badly. But it won't be in this game. I really love the open world racing games, Driver SF is one of my favorites, and I can tell you that my dream game is an open world racer with realistic physics. I am hoping that Ubisoft's upcoming title The Crew can fulfill this dream, but I am worried about it being always online and having potentially pay to win features. Although it will never happen, Assetto Corsa's driving engine, plus a large and interesting open world to explore would be a match made in heaven.
