Is it an option to just downgrade to Win10? I'm always hearing people having problems with it when it comes to some games, AC included
I see how it could work for those who have the option but for my sake, I sadly can't go back because I'm not as much a gamer as I am an artist locked behind the strict bounds of both my hard and software.
But thank you for the suggestion regardless.
Also thank you for keeping a polite tone by the way.
I expected to be tossed into a pit and spit on by how many times I've been scolded for asking for help on forums.
Truth is I'm just not very tech savvy and just wanna enjoy my games the way I enjoy them but a lot of people can't accept that and get mad when I ask any questions. :)
No worries mate. In general you'll find sim racers are a bit more mature than your average gamers, but only a bit!
From the limited research I've done online, it seems many people are successfully running AC with Win11, so it looks like it's most likely a settings or software issue, not just Win11 not being compatible.
Firstly, do a file integrity check of AC in Steam and make sure there's no corrupt files. See if anything is replaced.
One reason many people can't launch AC and get thrown back in to the menu is mis-match of windows-AC resolution, which using CM to set resolution before launching has seemed to work for some, but you say you've already tried that.
Also make sure you've downloaded the 64bit versions C++ (https://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/5/165255E7-1014-4D0A-B094-B6A430A6BFFC/vcredist_x64.exe)
Lastly I would try turning off any windows gaming mode options. In Win10, I click on the windows icon bottom left, then settings, and search for "gaming mode". Not sure if Win11 has this on by default too but worth a check.
lastly, I'm sure you already have but make sure you have the latest version of CSP installed, 0.1.79, as older versions might cause issues.
Reason being I'd try recording some things with it for fun.
So I think I got 0.1.80 preview.
However it does not work for AC.
It worked for other broken games only it made them stutter a lot and not fun to play.
Thank you for the suggestion though. :)
I validated the game files, two were replaced it said but nothing was fixed.
Issue remains the same. :)
2) disable as much mods as possible, especially apps.
3) disable CSP (keeping other mods disable too) and run the game from original launcher***, press drive and when it goes back to menu look into documents->assetto corsa->logs for log.txt , upload to pastebin or somewhere and post a link here.
Since the game does not run at all it seems forget about CSP for a moment and try getting the game running in as close to original state as possible... when that works, all the mods should be free to install back.
Other things to try:
- disable as much background apps as you can, HUB/monitoring/overlay etc. before running the game.
- *clean* reinstall GPU drivers... and i do mean CLEAN. you can google how to do it, for example with DDU.
- try running the game from another (preferably fresh/clean) user account.
***- ps: you have to disable CSP first in CM, turn off CM, then run original launcher, as CSP is still gets used otherwise.
As mentioned game didn't even launch in full vanilla after fully uninstalling all custom content.
Using a fresh user on my pc did not work either.
It just threw me back to the race menu after loading a few seconds every time I clicked start.
Bummer, I was hoping you would say "YES!! Thanks man" oh well. I did see your post on Rcaedepartment...did anyone chime in with ideas? Like Ling.speed asked..any thoughts on the log files?
There are no logs. I go to documents/Assetto Cora/Logs and all I see is launcher.log, launcher_controllers.log and launcher_debug.log.
All files that refuse to open.
This is becoming way too technical and advanced for someone like me.
I'm very much not tech savvy and very much a casual game enjoying man.
I play for fun, not even often enough to call myself a gamer.
Edit: I can confirm it all worked fine on my old computer few years ago and I do not remember the Windows version it had.
It has since exploded.
Still no success.
I get the error too when I click the ac.exe file.
There is a small chance you have logging disabled in CM, but thats off by default.
So assuming logs do try to be created but games bug out before that happens. It narrows it down mostly to some internal windows drivers (like the framework you mentioned reinstalling) or some aplication trying to inject itself into the game and failing (or straight blocking it). Stuff like Antivirus, some fancy recording/HUB/pc control software etc.
Logs are created as the very first thing while the game loads, so its really stopping at the first possible step, before graphics are loaded, before, controller initialization, before it sees the configuration files, etc.
You can probably think of it like something actively blocking the game not a game bug that crashes it.
