I can't wait to buy new PC because "we didnt want to make our life easier by putting more work at the start doing inhouse engine like AC has". But who cares, average car/racing fan is in the upper wage class so its fiiiine. And racing games are all about stunning visuals right? right?
Idk, maybe they acuired some magic lead dev that can handle UE5 but i bet its gonna be ACC all over again. At least VR is getting a little more mainstream so that puts a hard bottom line on performance/clarity.
Excited, but not really.
At best it will be the same as with RF1, it will take years after launch of new title for people to transfer from other games... Which up and coming studio handles naturally (like kunos did with AC), but idk about established one like modern day Kunos. Will they keep their heads down and work for their vision, or will they cut it all to pieces to fit into the established simracing mold quickly (kind of like with ACC)? In my experiance older studios (or even new ones on old IP) cant do it, simracing or not.
You have to be stupid to make a great game, they are not stupid anymore.
Isn't ACC on UE4? It's horrible for VR hence why I uninstalled it long ago, but the above article mentions AC2 will be using UE5, and while I haven't played any racing games/sims using UE5, every other game I play that uses UE5 looks fantastic, with very noticeable improvements over UE4.
I'm hoping for the best but all I can say is if VR sucks in AC2 like it does with ACC, it'll be a quick refund from me sadly.
We could absolutely geta a great sim on UE5 ... question is just how much work/pain its gonna take.
AC started small and worked up as demand grew. AC2 has demand from the start so its natural to work big from the start, but then Kunos is no polyphony.
Its gonna suck from the start no matter what, thats no problem for me. But I do prefer the start small then grow big like AC had, instead of start big then grow adequate like ACC did.
Good example would be KSP1 vs KSP2. Early access of KSP1 was one of my absolutely favourite times in gaming, from the very start it was cool. KSP2 is, erm "mixed" on steam, and they are just remaking the game for now, with absolutely everyting avilable, money, will, playerbase, help from big agencies. Its not even a "money grab" issue, its wrong approach from the very start. I just fear its the "default approach" and so AC2 will follow same path.
Have they given any feedback on how good or bad UE5 engine does in VR compared to UE4? So far on flat screen games UE5 looks amazing to me, but I've yet to experience anything in VR with it. Hoping there's a big improvement.
And it's true about games starting small with the capacity for growth. All the biggest games in history have followed that pattern; Quake, Counter Strike, Minecraft, AC, etc.
Trying to provide the "big" finished package from day 1 rarely ever goes well, and results in months if not years of needing to patch and fix things.
