But tbh you should not get that much difference except a little faster loading times, unless the HDD is ancient.
Still i have not moved a game that fat with mods lol yet... oh which reminds me, go check if you have enough space lol, thats where if it goes wrong you can be screwed part.
ps: if you want to be super extra careful, you can do it manually, just turn off steam, move the game folder and related .acf file to new library and steam wont even notice something has changed. But then manual labor is error prone too :P
Yea that's right, I am actually also only looking for faster load times actually. I like trying different cars and tracks but with this ancient HDD, it takes so much time to go through each. I hope nothing will break when I move xD
It was translated from German using Google translator.
It can therefore happen that one understands the meaning of possible formulations differently than expected.
Steam will only move the original game files. All other files like mods, settings and all that third party stuff stay in the directory where steam first installed the game.
That's logical too.
Steam only installs these and only creates these in an uninstallation routine. You then have to move these third-party things manually. How this behaves with the configurations of the third party things is a gamble. Some create a config file that refers to the installation path.
In the worst case, it doesn't work and you don't get an error message to change the relevant config files. In addition, you must change the paths in the Content Manager, if available,
to where the new directory is located.
This directory is also of interest
C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\AcTools Content Manager
There are many files stored there.
Whether they will be created with the new path if you move the Ac folder, who knows?
As I said, in the worst case, ac no longer works.
I once tried to move my 160GB AC. I ended up reinstalling for hours.
Now I leave AC where it is.
Never touch a running system.
The more vehicles and tracks you install, the longer it will take to start the game.
Since nothing helps against.
But there are small tweaks in CM to shorten the loading times.
In the end it is important that the AC runs stable and without dropouts and if the loading time takes 5 seconds longer, what the heck, my name is not Dr. Kimble and I'm not on the run.
Abbreviations Explanations:
AC = Assetto Corsa
CM = Content Manager
Hello J.J. , I did use Steam to move the installation folde of the game and all of the mods did actually come with it. So the old install folder is not even existent currently on my PC just after I move it via Steam. And once i run CM it asked for my new install folder which I picked and appears to be fine now. Got no problem so far.
Unfortunately, I can only speak from my experiences with moving the Assetto Corsa files. Like I said, they weren't that pretty.
But the main thing is that everything runs like clockwork.
Always remember:
Understeer is when you see the tree you're hitting.
Oversteer is when you only feel the tree you're hitting.
I don't need this anymore. AC got its own hard drive from my old computer.
Admittedly an HDD but as I already wrote, my name is not Richard Kimble and the Content Manager allows the data to be loaded faster with a few settings.
In addition, they are also compressed.
I'm one of those people who install just about every mod they can get and archive the ZIP files. Also the oh so evil illegal mods.
My motto is having is better than wanting.
Have already brightened the day of some registered members on Race Department by uploading the race track because the actual link, not a link on Race Department, was inactive or not posted on Race Department.
Except for payment mods, I have my principles. After all, I bought them.
You wouldn't believe how many people want to save a few euros for the Zandvoort '67 version, for example, but spend hundreds on the steering wheel, pedals and Playseats.
Always remember:
