What is Assetto DB.com ? Where can I learn to fix the cars found there?
http://assetto-db.com/

QUESTION ONE:

From the name, I assumed that it was an official function of Assetto Corsa, and that Assetto Corsa was monitoring and editing the content posted there for download.

Apparently this is not the case. I've contacted AC about the content found here and they don't seem to have anything to do with it. Nor want to.

If this is not an official AC function, just how are they legally using that name and posting content allegedly for AC?

I find much of content (cars, tracks) to be found there either can't be down loaded at all or performs very performs poorly. Please note, I said "much", not all.

QUESTION TWO:

I'm very new to this hobby and would like to learn to repair/modify/adjust the cars found at AC DB.

Where can I go to find information on adjusting the things contained in folders found in the DATA files of these cars?

This is important to me because, although I am very happy with how AC is working, AC does not "officially" have a lot of the cars (CAN-AM, Trans-AM, Old (1960's-70's) F1 cars) that I am interested in.

It's just a 3rd party/fan made database site for Assetto Corsa mods.

Thank you. OK ... we have an answer to question ONE. No more info is needed for question one.

What about Question TWO? Where can I find information which will teach me to work with this Car files and the information in the data folders?

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php Is the best place to go to learn about modding.

As Bigbazz said, official forum is the best place to learn and ask questions about modding.

To download and play, Race Department is one of the best (if not the best): http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/categories/assetto-corsa.1/

Those two sites, racedepartment and the official forums, are all you need.

There's nothing illegal about Assetto-DB, it's just a fansite that hosts links to both high-quality mods on places like the official forums and RaceDepartment, and plenty of Forza rips.

Check the EULA for Assetto Corsa but it is widely known that Kunos allows mods to be made and sold for AC- its part of the plan of AC making it moddable.

Sign up at the official AC forums and speak to modders there or ask for some advice on modding.

I couldn't find all that much info on the official forums to be honest, maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.

I figured out how to extract the data.acd but not really all that sure how to mess with the .lut files in a simple way.

Really .... ?

I kinda did that. This is what I got:

Hi, and welcome to the forums,

The mods you are speaking of are from the following website: http://shop.sim-dream.com/downloads/grandprix-1967/

Unfortunately, this website is known to take licensed content from other games and package it into some type of product for sale. These are unlicensed products and their permissions are undetermined.

In the official Assetto Corsa forums, we aim to create work from scratch, and discourage (by official forum rules) the supporting of the aforementioned type of work that infringes copyright for a monetary gain.

Regarding your troubles with the sounds, it is a trend for these types of mods to be produced in a less than satisfactory manner. There may not be as much attention to detail, production quality, compliance with similar cars, or even maintenance to the latest versions of the game.

The correct place to ask for a resolution to your problems would be to contact the source of the mods. They would need to revisit their volume balancing, and improve the quality of their work.

Thanks

ENDQUOTE

I tried to point out that "shop.sim-dream.com/downloads/grandprix-1967/" might be the origin of the cars in question, but I downloaded them from Assetto Corsa Database. That was totally ignored.

From the above reply on the official AC Forum, my takeaway is that those cars were not created there and AC don't want anybody to bring them up.

Please note that in over 15 days that was the only response to my request. No other member of that forum replied in either the positive or negative.

SimDream isn't Assetto-DB, Assetto-DB just hosts files. If you notice, SimDream is mostly payware, which Kunos doesn't support unless they're fictional cars (like UnitedRacingDesign, who actually built a couple of the official cars).

Also, those GP '67 cars are rubbish, there is a better quality version (from the people who actually made the original mod, instead of ripping it from another game and trying to get people to pay for it) located on F1 Classic, though you need to create an account.

F1C originally created the mod for rFactor, GTR2 and GT Legends, but SimDream stole it, ported it over, and made it payware. In revenge, F1C ported it over themselves, and made the physics actually good.

Sorry, thanks for your kind reply, but I don't care about ANY of that.

I just want to learn how to work within the data files and where to find help doing that.

I tried "official" AC forums ... they either can't or won't help on "unofficial" cars.

I'll keep looking.

Thanks.

You asked the wrong question, read, learn and do. There are modding tutorials on the site.

I'm sorry to say that... you're doing it wrong. Here's your OP @ the official forums:

Recently I down loaded 8 F1 cars from the late 1960's. These get packaged up as "1967 Legends" in Assetto Corsa's Brands List. Its a nice selection of cars, a Brabham, BRM, Cooper Matra-Ford, Honda and etc. that actually perform fairly well.

The sounds, however, are horrid. I have tried to determine if the engine sounds are off, or the wind sounds, or the tire sounds ... but I just can't pick out a specific type. In my opinion, it's ALL bad.

If I race these cars driving the Lotus 49, I cannot my own car over the noises coming from the others.

I believe these cars are relatively old as sims go. Has anyone worked up a fix for the sounds?

If this isn't the correct place for this type of difficulty, could you please direct me to the right place?
Thank you
T

You are asking for a sound fix for a mod that has all the issues SeriousSpy so clearly described.

but...

I just want to learn how to work within the data files and where to find help doing that.

If it is so, the best place to start is here:

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/fmod-project-v1-2-updated-29-07-2015.21444/

In that post you will find this:
You can find the SDK and the guideline in your "Steam folder\steamapps\common\Assetto Corsa\SDK\Audio" path.

There's an "AC Audio Pipline 1.2.PDF" file that has a lot of information on audio, and how to create .bank files

From a 5 min research... Audio is stored in a single file named [whatever].bank, inside the SFX folder of any given car's folder... but the modded cars also contain a GUIDs.txt file

As I'm no modder... please feel free to right my wrongs.

Hope that helps.
