Stuck on Installing: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0cmd (step 1 of 1)
Hello everyone! Well after being caught up in the Windows 10 auto upgrade fiasco, I found myself having to install a new SSD and a fresh copy of Windows 7 into my rig. Of course along with that meant all of the games I wanted to play. Long story short, Assetto Corsa is performing the first time set up routine and it's been hung up on this .NET Framework install for at least 4 hours with no drive activity. I've searched the forums here with no real answers so I thought I'd look for some fresh takes? Thanks in advance for any input. Running Windows 7 64 SP1

Have you tried downloading a service pack iso via torrent? I've done this loads of times on windows 7, ended up burning it to disk cus I used it so often.
should you have installed from a vanilla release-day disk, getting the SP1-ISO is the best option (also called redistributable version). Yet don't use torrent for that, get it from MS directly.

Yeah true actually, though I felt sure you couldn't get it anymore? I was trying to find it the other day for an old laptop and it said the file couldn't be found on the MS website.

Thank you Simon and Talky, in following the link, I should be downloading and running the 1.9GB file correct? Like I said, my troubleshooting skills are adequate only because my rig hasn't really given me any problems up until now. Thanks again, still haven't given up hope.

Yeah that's right, you should then end up with the service pack installed. It's strange how I also wasn't able to install any windows 7 updates on a laptop the other week.

If you follow all those steps and it doesn't work please head over to the official AC forums, developers hang out there and directly help users with their problems.
http://forums.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php

Create a new thread and copy paste what you wrote here and the developers will help if they can, I've seen this issue heaps over there and they seem to always figure it out.

If you're having problems creating an account on their website let me know here and I can assist you.
Rudski, It's been a few days since I tried to sign up for an account over at the AC website and haven't gotten the confirmation email yet. Not sure if that's just the normal amount of time it takes or if maybe it's a semi-closed group? I was a little surprised to see your offer of help, indicating a chance that I might not be accepted into the "club"?

It's been a while since I've ever had to setup an account. There seems to be two ways, via email and via steam. I'd go steam and make sure to use your steamID name as your name, I think a few people get tripped up with that step. If you search these forums for "steam sign in" you will find lots of threads and advice. Someone a few days ago posted here a guide but I couldn't find it sorry.

That is strange, but also not really. Given Microsoft's recent shady dealings with the auto Windows 10 upgrade involving the red X window close trick, I wouldn't put ANYTHING past them, including making lives for Windows 7 users difficult. Have you been able to get your laptap to install updates since your last post? I have to get a CD that has the capacity to burn the 1.9GB file before I can proceed.

I gave up and just binned it lol, had rubbish specs anyway.

Will it not just let you mount it to a virtual drive? http://www.disk-tools.com/download/daemon

It should work fine doing it that way.

This is ALMOST getting laughable. When I tried to run the .exe for that virtual drive, it gave me an error message telling me that I didn't have .NET Framework installed! AAAARRRRGGGGHHH I really appreciate yours and everyone's efforts however it might be time to just put this to bed. I can't believe a clean install of Windows GAVE me problems.

Ah ok, I forgot about that - grab that from here https://www.microsoft.com/net/download

Once you get the service pack installed everything SHOULD be ok, you're at the final hurdle!!

Thanks Hugh but I'm caught in a circular reference here. Installing the .NET Framework is my problem no matter what the source. I've tried getting it from the Microsoft website, tried running it, tried saving it and running, no luck. Not sure why it's not part of the Windows install to begin with. In the past a clean OS installed was always the last resort but now MS seems to have screwed that up too. I've let it run all day with no progress that I could see. I can't see turning my $1500 rig into a GTA 5 station but I don't know what else to do at this point. This .NET deal has got me handcuffed.

Hmm, you say these were 100% from scratch installations of Windows? Or did you upgrade from 7 to 10 and then roll back? Windows 7 should come pre-installed with .NET 3.5 if I remember correctly, so it sounds like something has gone a bit wonky somewhere.

Here's a link to the .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2008/10/13/net-framework-setup-verification-tool-users-guide/

Run the above (if it will install), if it finds issues you will need to run the .NET Framework Repair Tool https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2698555 (Instructions for use are in the link further down)

If all of that seems to go as planned try the .NET Framework 4 Standalone Installer https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=17718

There are some more tricks to get it working but they involve messing with registry and all that kinda stuff, not sure how computer literate you are so it's probably easier to try the above first. In fact, it's probably easier to just format your system drive and install a fresh version of Windows 10 from scratch at this point (it configures everything automatically), but I don't know where you stand with storage and how your drives are configured either.

This is a result of a fresh SSD and fresh install of Win 7 64. However, I just ran the reran the repair tool, then the install from the MS website and it INSTALLED!!!! So I thought I was going to be playing within minutes! Busted. Still stuck on the first time set up screen when I try to launch the game. AC is still wanting to install the .NET Framework on it's own, even though I've already installed it outside of Steam.
Talkie Toaster 20 set. 2016 às 6:00
Oh ok wow, this gets better and better doesn't it lol. So you are now on .NET 4.0? That is also what AC will be trying to install.

Did you go through and install the chipset drivers, SATA drivers and everything like that for your motherboard after you installed Windows 7 again? I had some issues with this a while back.

EDIT - Oh and did you get as far as installing Service Pack 1 for Windows 7? That might be a good idea before doing anything else at this point.

FIXED!!!!!! RESOLVED!!!! GOT INTO THE GAME!!!!! Thank you to EVERYONE who participated in this conversation. The last time it hung up on the AC first time setup screen, I killed it, then went into the remove program tab in the control panel to see if the .NET Framework was actually installed and it was there. Went back into AC and BOOM, I was able to run the game. Thanks again to everyone. Like I said before, the communities are the life blood of the PC gaming world and always will be. See you on the track!
