Stuck on Installing: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0cmd (step 1 of 1)
Hello everyone! Well after being caught up in the Windows 10 auto upgrade fiasco, I found myself having to install a new SSD and a fresh copy of Windows 7 into my rig. Of course along with that meant all of the games I wanted to play. Long story short, Assetto Corsa is performing the first time set up routine and it's been hung up on this .NET Framework install for at least 4 hours with no drive activity. I've searched the forums here with no real answers so I thought I'd look for some fresh takes? Thanks in advance for any input. Running Windows 7 64 SP1

Thanks for the quick help Samantha! I may be in for a LOOOOOOONG haul. No file size detail is shown, but a progress bar of about 8" in length is shown while installing and after about 10 minutes, ZERO progress was shown...ugh. If I see ANY color at all show up, I'm prepared to let her run so long as I get my beloved AC back! Thanks again.
I upgraded my PC last year, followed by a complete new setting up of Win7... ...that alone took almost 2 days. It's not even the download-time that is the culprit. Windows sort-of compacted system-installation coupled with iterative add-ons and patches for those addons and patches for the patches (...) takes an awful lot of time on the filesystem-level. That is with an SATA2 ssd for the system.
Installing a modern Linux distro on the other hand: ~ 20 minutes complete with the most-important applications. And it's package&versioning system (apt) loads the latest version of everything right at the point of install. So yes: Microsoft knows how to make disobeying customers that don't see the need to go to Win 10 feel it in the end.

Simon, you're not kidding! After over 5 hours of letting the install of the framework run, I had ZERO progress showing so I just killed it. I've got a REALLY bad taste in my mouth after this whole Windows 10 auto update ordeal and I'm so close to just bailing on the whole PC gaming hobby, especially since console gaming has gotten so good. What REALLY is so hard to stomach is that the system I built back in 2012 had given me absolutely no problems up until this point. That's the really big pill I've had to swallow through this whole deal. Ok, I'm done ranting...for now.

If anyone has any other suggestions, PLEASE let me know. I was having so much fun with AC and didn't even get a chance to try out the Japanese car pack after I purchased it.

Make sure you're an administrator to the PC.
Run a windows update to make sure it's all up2date. Then run the dotnet repair tool here:
Microsoft's Repair Tool: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135
If that doesn't repair it and you can't install 4.0 then it's best you just uninstall everything related to dotnet and start again.
Go into control panel/programs and features and sort by publisher.
Find any dotnet installs and uninstall them. Reboot.
Once all dotnet packages are removed run these installers down below or from the AC folder (same files)

In this order newest to oldest.

Update/reinstall Microsoft .NET 4.6: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48130
- Update/reinstall Microsoft .NET 4.5.2: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42642
- Update/reinstall Microsoft .NET 4.0: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?id=17718)

Thanks for all of that info and advice rudski. Interestingly enough, when I run Windows update, it doesn't seem to be looking for updates either. I'm going to start delving into your suggestions and links right now and again, thanks so much for your time and efforts. That's the ONE thing that's keeping me going right now, the COMMUNITY in the PC gaming world.

If you follow all those steps and it doesn't work please head over to the official AC forums, developers hang out there and directly help users with their problems.

Create a new thread and copy paste what you wrote here and the developers will help if they can, I've seen this issue heaps over there and they seem to always figure it out.

If you're having problems creating an account on their website let me know here and I can assist you.

This sounds like an issue with your OS install at this stage, if it was me I'd just reinstall it - Windows 10 is pretty fast with this sort of thing.

Start > Settings > Update and Recovery > Recovery > Reset this PC - you can keep all of your files in the process and it should make sure all OS files are as they should be, many people had some issue or another when upgrading from an older version of windows instead of installing Windows 10 from scratch.

i would check the integrity of the syste files first by running the command in an elecvated CMD prompt
sfc /scannow

See what errors it find and if not you may need to reset WMI repository, also when its running check the taskmanager in the process's tab and see if msiexec.exe is just sitting there doing nothing.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried this as well however nothing seems to be happening. No popup windows or hard drive activity when I type the above in the Run box.

Talky, I'm actually back to Windows 7-64. I did a clean reinstall after trying to roll back to 7 after upgrading to Win 10. With no success I installed a new SSD with a fresh copy of Win 7. Since then, the framework 4.0 has been nothing but a nightmare along with not yet having been able to get Windows to update.

So you cant even check for windows updates? Open internet explorer first because the windows update service relies on IE proxy settings mate

Thanks for the suggestion, was hoping that would help but no luck. I think updating the OS is my first order of business actually. I'm going to refocus my efforts for the time being. I just have to remember to step away from the keyboard when I start to get frustrated LOL

Rudski, It's been a few days since I tried to sign up for an account over at the AC website and haven't gotten the confirmation email yet. Not sure if that's just the normal amount of time it takes or if maybe it's a semi-closed group? I was a little surprised to see your offer of help, indicating a chance that I might not be accepted into the "club"?

Have you tried downloading a service pack iso via torrent? I've done this loads of times on windows 7, ended up burning it to disk cus I used it so often.
