metascore getting dragged down by idiots who obviously failed to understand who the audience of this game is ... Shiny rewards? Blinking lights & sounds? Dynamic ideal line? LOL? what the .... ?
LOL
It was to be expected I suppose, with quite a few 50/100 scores and complaints that its `no fun`.
Kinda had a feeling it wouldn`t fly on consoles, i love AC its my favourite sim Just wish it had more basic features like other racing games, more tracks and generaly a bit more polish all round.
Yeh, I think it was inevitable given the `fixed` nautre of console games as well as the comparing to well established racing games made by big companies like Turn10 and Sony.
On the PC we're willing to look past flaws and missing features as we expect nice regular updates and we have mods, so PC crowd is more accepting of it being kinda `unfinished` in places but consoles? No, you pay a large amount for a disc and you expect that to be the game without further updates.
Its a shame the same thing is being said again and again about AC on consoles `it lacks content`- yeh compared with Gran Turimso's `cut and paste` cars, sure.
I may not like saying it, but once the next Forza and Gran Turismo come out AC will have a very short lived life on console!
I think Kunos went into this knowingly - they know there'll be a small genuine sim fan community on consoles, with the right mindset and decent wheels. I guess it's just an added bonus if they rake in a bunch of extra sales from other people who fancy themselves sim-racers but don't realise what they're used to aren't really sims.
Given the fundamental mismatch between AC and console audiences, averaging 79% doesn't seem like a bad start.
What I *do* wish would happen, is that publications revisited their PC reviews, as AC is a substantially improved game now over the initial PC release, and I suspect the current 85% metacritic average would turn out somewhat differently if it was reviewed as it is now.
I guess in the grand scheme, none of that nonsense matters... AC will never be a mass crowd-pleaser, no matter how much better the presentation got, appealing to a wider audience requires compromises that Kunos seemingly aren't willing to make... the best we can do as enthusiasts is ensure we keep supporting them.
After all those guys are used to score games based on a standardized set of expectations and some sort of in-game progression. So nothing new here.
I actually cannot blame the guy for writing this. His angle of view is perfectly understandable. Simulations like this are a niche of their own. You either like the core of their raison d'être or you won't be taken in by them. Let's just hope the effort the guys at Kunos and 505 put into it, actually pays them back in the end. Would be cool to broaden the reach of sim-racing in general to the potentially less tech-savvy crowd.
Cheers!
Apples and Oranges. ;)
Any AC/racer would take feel over graphics any day, and that's what this game has delivered. Kunos F'd up releasing a 30fps game to people that fight over 1080p etc to prove their console is better...
...really: a non-driving-enthusiast wrote a piece about "just another videogame" which did not conform to the general concept most other AAA videogames follow.
(pardon my ignorance if that is not what happened here)
What happened to informing ourselves about the sources whose oppinions we trust?
I dont have the box since I bought it for my PS4 as a digital copy, but I know one of the reviewers was saying that its stating something similar on the back of the box, that his is a real simulator, not a simcade, be aware, or smth like that :D
