They're both excellent games but if you're main criteria is which you can put the most time into I'd have to go with Assetto Corsa. Dirt Rally is a bit one dimensional as far as gameplay goes whereas the sheer amount of mods for Assetto Corsa ensures greater variety even before you buy DLC. There's even rally mods!

Very different games, depends if you want rallying or circuit racing

I have both. Both are great- Assetto Corsa steals more of my attention and playtime and additionally with Assetto Corsa you can download mod cars and tracks and this includes rally cars and rally cross/dirt tracks.

Own both- enjoy both for being different from one another.

I would buy Assetto Corsa. I bought it yesterday for sale. Played only about 4 hours now.
But... I can see this game to be playable even for next 100h minimum. The 4 hours went by so fast, I am still far away from anything done.
Every car is pretty unique and requires unique setup for unique tracks. The setup possibilities are so huge. It takes tons of hours to optimize all of this and optimize your driving^^

Asseto Corsa, no doubts about that. This game offers much more content and it´s more realistic. There are also incredible rally car mods for asseto , you can download them "Rallylegends mod".:car:

After many sales and thinking "maybe next time", I've finally gone ahead and bought it. I hope it's as good as rFactor 2 :)

If you got a wheel, Assetto Corsa. If you got a gamepad, Dirt Rally.

im sorry that i'm taking advantage of this but when the pound price droped the g920's price dropped significantly so i might try to ask my parents for one!

For circuit racing I think RaceRoom is a much better game.

For rally this game is not in the same genre. I highly suggest giveing a raceroom a try. Its comes with a few cars and tracks for free to get a feel for the game. The free tracks are fanasy tracks, but the paid tracks are real, some of them laser scanned. That game is also haveing a 50% off sale.

FYI rfactor 2 for the most part is like an incomplete buggy beta. The UI is a mess. Some of the tracks and cars for rf2 are really good, but most will disapoint you. The clio cup and the GTR are the best made cars. Any of the ISI made tracks are good. The tire wear for rf2 is just bull crap. You dont even have to lock up to ruin tires on the warm up lap. If you like driving on ice and having a race ruined by a little slip then rf2 is for you.
