I've tried driving backwards in practice mode and found that the kerbing is often the wrong type and/or not in the right place.
Big corner-exit kerbs with astroturf suddenly because your entrance kerbs, and then when you're tracking out of the corner you only have the tiny sliver (of formerly corner-entrance kerb) to land on.
Sure, you can drive backwards; but it's very rare for it to ever feel natural, or like it's meant to be done that way.
the tracks are designed with certain flow in mind and some have such specific corners, that these would be pretty lame to drive through in the other direction compared to the original direction which the designer had in mind. For example the in the last weeks often mentioned track SPA and its Eu Rouge, try to drive it backwards in Forza, yeah, lame huh?
So what? Nobody said it's an arcade racer. LFS has the option to race in reversed direction, is LFS an arcade racer?
i think the answer to that question is another question: do the tracks ever officially hold reversed races in real life?
maybe AC isn't willing to simulate in their simulator that which isn't done for real.
here's a thread in another forum about why most tracks are not run in reverse in real life: http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=490
I really like the reverse option in LFS, it doubles the tracks. When driving backward, the track feel like a totally new one. I think one of the many reasons that we like sim games is because we can try many things that we can't try in real world, and racing in reversed direction is an enhancement to that. I hope the developer will add this feature to the game in the future.
For many casual gamers this would be a boon, regardless of kerbing and flow.
I dont however forsee the devs doing it. You might like to bring it up in the modding area of the AC forums.
Just do expect a lot of disagreement from the purists.
