I did that, and that lets me drive when I am on my own on a practice, but when I try to start a track day (and possibly other game modes) pressing that puts me in another menu where there's a strip down the bottom of my screens with the names of everyone involved in the track day and another screen on my right where I can mess with settings for the car. There's nothing to the left at all and no button to send my car out that I can see.
I assume this is the pit menu, but I haven't played this game much so I don't know.
You can remove those by pressing F9 a few times and it will cycle through the positions of the driver names. You can have it at the bottom, on the left, or off.
As for starting a track day, race, practice, etc, you will always have to start the session by clicking the top left wheel icon, makes no difference what type of session you're in.
Enjoy
I clicked the wheel before seeing the other menu, it was clicking the wheel that allowed me to see the other menu. Possibly my game had already crashed...
Yes first you click the wheel to actually be able to drive and start the session, then later you will see other UI items on your screen like the list of other cars, mini map, tyre pressure, etc.
After clicking on the wheel in the top left to start, you can move your mouse to the right edge of the screen and you'll see all of the widgets and tools you can use in AC. Most people like to have things like mini map, tyre pressure, and stuff showing while racing but it's all up to you.
Yes, that is what happened, so how do I then leave the pit? It looked like I should have been able to drive out (since there was no one around me), but it wouldn't let me do that either.
I would mention double checking your control button assignments, make sure you have assigned gas pedal, brake pedal, everything. But you mentioned earlier than you were able to drive in a practice session, therefore it should let you drive off in any session since if you can drive in practice, it means your controls are working.
Definitely double check your control settings and make sure every pedal and button is doing what it's supposed to.
