why does everyone like this game so much
Hi, i baught the game a few days ago, and i played it for about 20 minutes, then i refunded it. For some reason every car i tried suffered from some massive understear, the car didnt want to turn and just drive right into the wall, this is unplayable, why do the cars behave like this?
Edit: I am NOT gonna read any more comments on this post, and i disabled notifications, PLEASE stop responding to this thread, i would delete it, but unfortunatly steam doesnt allow deleting a thread, when it reached more than 7 comments

The cars behave the way they do because AC is a race simulator and not just a racing game like Grid or similar.

This means most aspects of taking the car around a track are simulated, such as tyre temps and load. You were simply driving the cars too hard and fast into corners, oversteering the front wheels and pushing the front tyres beyond their grip levels leading to massive understeer.

If you are not used to actually modulating braking whilst entering a braking zone or hitting apexes before easing the throttle back on in something like a race simulator, then you're going to just end up overdriving the car and plowing off the track- you can't drive the cars like this is Need For Speed or Grid Autosport.

Simulators should have realistic handling, not artificially difficult handling. Have you driven a real car fast on roads with tight turns? You typically don't have to slow down to 10-15mph

..It's not realistic that performance cars in the game wouldn't be able to do that and need to be slowed down to 15mph.

Name the car and corner. I'd be interested in trying it.

I have requested a refund for the same reason. The understeer is totally unrealistic. You can't take a corner even at 30mph. I just went driving on a canyon road yesterday and took sharp corners at 30-40mph in my Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. It's not realistic that performance cars in the game wouldn't be able to do that and need to be slowed down to 15mph.
going through a sharp corner at 30 in real life would ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kill you so i'm not sure how it's unrealistic
There is a 90° turn when I drive home from school, I take that corner every day, I can say for sure I took it at least once with 40 kmh and I am still alive, I drove a Renault Clio 4 2016 stock

there's a difference between kilos per hour and miles per hour
i know, 30mph is about 50kmh, and 40kmh is 10kmh slower than 50kmh, and because i did this with a Fcking renault with 90hp with 0 downfoce, i expect a racecar to do better than that
Edit: i mean, the car edition says it has a "spoiler", but when you look at that thing you can tell it doesnt do anything to downforce, more to aeodynamics and looks

1. 90hp for a renault from 2016 is a lie
2. a VW golf alltrack isn't a racecar
3. don't care about the edit
ok, maybe i got the year wrong, but it is a 90hp renault clio with 898cc 3 cylinders turbo
and what do u mean by VW gold alltrack? i never mentioned sth like that

i haven't found a single renault going max 90hp
and you were backing up the other guy who was talking about canyons and alltracks
ok, i looked at the approval translucent (translated that with google) of my car, and sorry, i was wrong, it isnt a 2016 car, it is 2013, 6 years old, not 2016, got that wrong, sorry, but it is 90hp with 898ccm

I always find it weird when people say, "I had to slow down to XXmph or get massive understeer. This is unrealistic!" Pure speed tells you nothing with how a car handles. You can get understeer in a parking lot.

As for why I like this game. A few weeks back I had a track event at Watkins Glen. I spent several weeks before the event training on a mod track of Watkins Glen in AC. Some of the nuances between the game and reality were different, as it always is. Nevertheless, it was very helpful to learn the track before I ever got there. Turn in points, braking points, and the line were almost exactly the same between AC and real life.

Frankly, if you are saying I get "massive understeer" at some very low speed there is a problem with either your setup or driving style. I say, "I hit the bus stop at Watkins Glen at 80 mph in real life vs 90 mph in AC because I want to live."
LOL !! wow.....

I've 2500 hours in this SIM, i race in leagues and have won leagues. I can definately take a corner are more than 30mph @jackalope.....

To those who refunded (playing on a keyboard) - thank god you did..... don't need you ruining an online race LOL!!!

You might be surprised.

A short wheelbase Clio that gets all its grip from the chassis will have a smaller turning circle than a purpose built racecar that gets most of its grip from aerodynamics. Many a McLaren, Corvette, or Ferrari have fallen to a lowly Miata or Golf in a parking lot autocross. If you built the course tight enough, your car would defeat an F1 car. If you built the course tight enough, a F1 car wouldn't have the turning circle to even get around the course. They have to build special steering racks to get around Monoco.

depends on the game tbh, i mean, i refunded it because it is unplayable with keyboard, and i hate the controller and wheel, its not fun, dont get me wrong, i really like the controller for some 2d games, but for racing games, nah, that's personal preference, in other games, the mouse and keyboard works great for racing, but this is just garbage with it, i am not gonna change my playstyle because of one game, when there are better alternatives out there
EDIT: I DIDNT MEAN TO INSULT ANYONE WHEN I SAY BETTER ALTERNATIVES

keyboard is useless for a sim racer. Get a wheel or invest in one and this will change your life! well for me it did :steamhappy:
The dev is obsessed with using "the most realistic tire vales available", measured from tires not attached to cars, and to top it off the force feedback is driven by the tire aligning moment instead of mechanical trail. Same reason Forza had terrible ffb until the FM7/FH4 (their physics are still recovering from how they dealt with the resultant instability). He calls himself Lord Kunos on his personal forums and considers himself an expert in sim development. Doesn't know how driving works.

Don't get me wrong you can have fun in Assetto, that's the primary goal of a game, even a sim I would argue, but it's not terrifically realistic and definitely not compatible with drifting thanks to the FFB and odd high-slipangle tire behaviors I haven't been able to isolate in the tyre.ini over 6 hours of tweaking and scouring the internet.

It's a shame too because there's a highly reactive kinematic suspension system that would LOVE to drive the FFB. Pnumatic trail doesn't affect the steering. It's not relevant in a sim AT ALL. Real life is not so complicated and convoluted.

Hope the cops will ♥♥♥♥ him.
