is this really the best racing sim on steam?
which is unfortunate. game captures none of the immersion of actual racing. doing 75mph in a hot hatch feels as exciting and fast as cruising through my 20mph neighborhood. there's no sense of the thrill, adrenaline, rumble and tumble and mental/physical dexterity of throwing such cars around a track like when trying to set a personal record.

am i missing something here? the game is good at simulating some technical aspects like throttle and break control etc but that's hardly immersive in a controlled environment. is this because the game is relatively old?

Apparently it's THE best sim out there if you're into GT racing, like it's not even close. But alas, it's a no for many VR users.

After AC, the second best sims I've tried in VR are Automobalista 2 and Raceroom, but AC is just that little bit better in every regard, plus way more servers.

i hear you on the GT3 front. personally i thing its AC>Raceroom>Ams2.. i settled down with raceroom mostly for its online. i really enjoy all of them for their own merits but every time i race on ACC i shut it down before even finishing a race and i cant explain why.

Have indulgence with a 52 year old player, but I think the mods for Assetto Corsa vs. Assetto Corsa Compost speak a clear language.
ACC:
No cars, no racetracks. Anyway, I haven't found anything.
Only skins and apps but that in bulk.
Let's be honest. It doesn't matter if the ad is from 2019 or 2022 as long as the route doesn't change.
AC:
Hundreds of racetracks from every decade, vehicles from 1920 to the present day and not just the same thing reheated over and over again.
A lot of free mods don't have to hide behind the full-price products of various software companies at all.
Conclusion:
Assetto Corsa is the better choice.

No mod content for ACC, for one the files are encrypted through UE4 (from what I've read) and secondly most likely an agreement with the GT3 world series with who they are an official partner.

What makes ACC/UE4 so bad for VR in your guys' opinion?

I like AC but it's hard to get past the potato graphics and ultra compressed sound quality.

Where can I get the Pure AC mod to try?

Optimisation. I can run AC with CSP and Pure with almost everything wound up to max and maintain 90fps with grids of 20 cars. In ACC I have to wind detail right down and even then with only a fewcars on track my fps drops like a stone.

Potato graphics?

Pure is Patreon only currently, but can be had for as little as $1.

CSP - https://acstuff.ru/patch/ (I use 1.78 - if you want rain you'll find that at x4fab's patreon)
Content Manager - https://acstuff.ru/app/

AC has some of the best graphics in the sim world, and I own all of the sims basically and they're all gathering dust, I only play AC. But you have to have the patience to actually install a few mods. They transform the game.

No patience = no beuno

Wow, what a noob...dude I have basically all these Sims and play them in VR, AC with a few mods looks better than all of them, including AMS2. Get your head outta yer a$$ dude.

No need to be rude like that buddy. A lot of people don't know about mods, maybe they just install vanilla AC and think that's it, that's all there is.

with VR & a 900 degree wheel AC is the ultimate experience, AMS2 is also great but kinda dead online & DIRT 1/2 are fun but a bit arcady
kepople Jun 23, 2022 @ 6:58am
I prefer the FFB and graphics in AMS2. Oddity is the car selection, but as far as immersion, ffb, and such, it is better in every way. The amount of mods for AC however can make AC better than most other sims.
If you feel your not immersed, well, that's likely more rig setup, camera position than anything.

but AC2 is coming.

Yeah I'm using CSP as per your recommendations from another thread. I'll pick up Pure sometime to try as well. As nice as those screenshots look my game does not look like that however and just for reference I have a valve index and a 3090. The audience and trees are all 2d billboards and the textures for anything other than the cars are very low resolution. I've only been playing through the career campaign for now though. I guess those are multiplayer maps or something?

I picked up the game of the year edition of dirt rally 2 and ac competezione today during the sale. I've been having a blast with DR2 and Asetto Corsa despite it looking and sounding dated compared to more modern VR titles at this point.

I was getting into AMS2 but then I forgot I had Assetto Corsa so I installed it and it has basically replaced AMS2 with how modular it is. The only thing I would use AMS2 for is Kart stuff, apart from that AC is my go to Open Wheel sim...love the Formula Vee mod, and Formula Ford, F4, F3,........F2 and F1 I am waiting for the Codemaster game cause it will support VR now. I can only do racing in VR, can't stand 2D.

You have modders making game look good, you have communities that make leagues with moderation so you will get a fair competition and the game itself has a great physics engine so yeah I would say it is best on the market. 2nd to this would be iracing maybe because of their rank system it is much easier to hop in and get in a race and enjoy but that is really expensive. You can get yourself a decent sim rig with saved money from iracing and race in AC too. Go to discord and search "assetto" you will get many dc servers for every taste like league racing, cruising in city traffics, rallying, drifting. Check on Content Manager, csp, sol, pure and racedepartment.com for cars and tracks and all that stuff for mods. Ima put in a little ad here of our community we race in: discord.io/assettofriends we have 4 leagues for different skill groups and different car styles and weekly casual races every saturday and sunday. Check it out! :escapehappy:
